I was thinking of the universal nurse's cure for "unwanted arousal": a swift flick to the offending member with a cold teaspoon

Cold cream was definitely used as a moisturizer as well as a cleanser when I was young. My grandmother slathered it on her face each night and even when she passed at age 104 she had smooth, beautiful skin. (My husband told me he'd prefer me with drier skin if it meant I didn't have to wear that stuff to bed.) You're correct it has been replaced by newer formulations for skin care, but it's still available.
