A little bit of explanation regarding some of these countries since the original comment got deleted:

Most European territories: The first iteration of a (short-lived) Belgian state occured in 1790, when the Brabant Revolution ousted the Austrians until the end of the year. This explains the strange enclaves.

China: Concession in Tianjin.

Guatemala: Santo Tomas de Castilla was the first attempt at a Belgian colony. It existed from 1843 to 1854.

Italy: Isola Comacina was granted to Belgium in homage to the king in 1919. This territory was returned to Italy the following year.

Central African Republic: The sultanates of Zemio and Rafai were under Belgian protectorate just before the territory was seized by France.

Uganda/South Sudan: The Lado Enclave. Ceded to the UK in 1910.

It's fun to go on Google Maps and look at all the enclaves, within exclaves, within enclaves along the NL-BE border!

Clearly Quizmaster fell asleep and was taken over by one of those aliens in those over-sized pea pods. No other rational explanation for how this quiz got featured. (and a very excellent quiz, I might add)

It was an international zone, which as stated by the caveat means it doesn't meet the criteria for inclusion here.

You shouldn't generalize like that by saying "the evil Belgians" because not all Belgians were that way. Afterall it was the Belgian government who took away Leopold's territory in the Congo because of the atrocities he was committing there.
+3
Level 55
Apr 18, 2021
Wasn't me who put that there considering I have no control over what is written on the front page. Either way, it's a running joke that is completely unrelated to Leopold II's atrocities (e.g. see Quizmaster's comment above).

I am probably stupid now for thinking this but I never expected that Guatemala had a border on the eastern coast of the isthimus (i had incorrectly assumed it was cut off from the gulf of mexico by belize, in the same way that honduras does that for el salvador)
