This isn't direct criticism towards you but what is it with people saying Ethiopia was "never fully colonized"? It got fully occupied by a european country (Italy) and was ruled by it for a number of years. If that's not colonisation, I don't know what is.

It all depends on perspective. Ethiopia was occupied by Italian forces, but real colonial power was never established. So even whilst the country was occupied, it still managed to keep it's political independence.

I look at it as definitely more military occupation than colonization. For example, while Poland wasn't colonized by Germany during WW2, it definitely was invaded and occupied for years.

Didn’t Liberia get independence from the US

Not exactly as the USA didn't try to directly control the country. Liberia was established by the US (to keep it away from european powers) but wasn't a colony.

You mean it was established to get rid of the freed slaves they didn't want in their country.

This is how I understand it. Although from what I have read, many freed slaves in the USA didn't want to return to Africa as they had lived in the USA for many generations. It was widely but erroneously considered that Africa were one single ethnicity. Freed slave settlers were regarded by indigenous people as outsiders; exactly the situation they were trying to escape.

This was the first time I got 100% thanks to Jetpunk always giving away the first answer of the quiz.

They always give the easiest answer, which in this case was Liberia.

South Africa? How is the definition of independence? I am somewhat sure, it was not a real country in its own right.

1910 was when the Dominion of South Africa was established.

I think there is a bit too much time given to finish the quiz, we can almost type in every african country without thinking and it works. But an interesting quiz!

I'm a bit late to this, but 1947? Shouldn't it be 1941 if we're already going by the British liberation of Ethiopia during WW2?
