Once again, people who have mastered the country quiz are just typing them all so they get a good score on this one.

It's virtually impossible to do all the world's countries in 4 minutes. And it makes it more difficult to suddenly think of them alphabetically unless that's the way you learned them in the first place. I learned them by continent and smaller geographical groups.

It is possible to do all Countries in 4 Minutes (I did it in 4:39), and you just need to write the big ones ! I mean who would've typed Nauru, Vatican or Monaco?

@RPHXX, Except that you have to delete (backspace) every incorrect answer. So even people who could type all countries in 4 minutes would find it extremely difficult if not impossible to type all countries and finish this quiz.

You don't have to delete wrong answers with backspace. Just hit CTRL-A or COMMAND-A to select all. Your wrong answer will be highlighted and the next letter you type will replace it.

+6
Level 64
Dec 10, 2014
There are two "Congo" countries (Democratic Republic of the Congo and Republic of the Congo), so we had to distinct them by using their official names. Here, we only refer to the People's Republic of China as "China" since it is the only country using "China" as part of its common name (the Republic of China is referred to as "Taiwan").

I think it is just because we think of Latin America as a smaller place since so much happens in Europe and Europe is so densely populated. Another thing is the Central American countries are small relative to the monsters of Canada, USA, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, And Brazil, also Colombia and Venezuela. Also our one story view of poverty in these countries makes us look at them as smaller in size too.

+2
Level 26
Jun 14, 2018
Which makes it all the more puzzling why the quizmaster had to specifically designate Greenland as an "overseas territory" which is just plain wrong. Denmark is constitutionally defined as a unitary state that just has devolved powers to two parts of it (Greenland and the Faroe Islands). Not counting Greenland as part of Denmark is similar to not counting Scotland as pat of the UK because it has autonomy. Granted, Greenland has slightly more autonomy than Scotland, but not much, and the constitutional situation is similar. Just let people type in Denmark if they don't know the DRC is bigger, no need for including it in "overseas territories".

+1
Level 31
Feb 23, 2019
So, the situation is not the same, because there is Democratic Republic of the Congo and there is Republic of Congo, but China, is like South Korea because even though the full name is Republic of South Korea we count it as "S".
+2
Level 66
Jan 28, 2020
Perhaps this site should stick to Congo-Brazzaville and Congo-Kinshasa. Those names are correct, (in use and not simply made up by me) and would make an end to all the ambiguity and bickering.

I know it would be a huge overhaul. And then people will complain it changed, people will always complain.. But atleast in theory I think it is the best solution.

So by that logic, Australia starts with C, Brazil, Ethiopia, and Germany start with F, Honduras, India, Kazakhstan, Niger, Peru, Yemen, and Zambia start with R, Libya, Oman, and Qatar start with S, Mexico and Tanzania start with U, Saudi Arabia starts with K, and Venezuela starts with B. "The" is not part of the official name of the United States. A closer parallel would be filing South Korea under "R," Mexico under "U," China under "P," or North Korea under "D." But as there are two Congos they do it to differentiate the two.
