Tried Liberace, Elton John, Glenn "Rhinestone Cowboy"...of course I'm just making excuses for overlooking the painfully obvious...the State Farm commercial says it all.
Liberace gained fame as a pianist, not a singer, and Glen Campbell just wasn't on the same playing field as Elvis. Glen Campbell was more of a TV personality then with a few movie roles who occasionally played Vegas. He said that one of the most thrilling moments of his life was playing on the soundtrack for the Elvis movie, Viva Las Vegas. Elvis and Glen were friends and I liked them both, but ask anyone back then who wore rhinestones and sang in Vegas, and Elvis would be the first answer.
It was a club in the East Village (New York City) where a lot of punks bands built their followings, most notably the Ramones and Blondie (who, yes, was considered punk for a while). The club was an institution for decades, and it closed down about...ten years ago, maybe? They made a movie about its 1970s heyday that came out like five years ago, but it was pretty bad. Ron Weasley was in it. I don't recommend it. Listen to the music instead.
Talking Heads was another punk band that got their start at CBGB. I attended a concert there once but, by that time, it was WAY past its prime. Still happy to be able to say I went.
Never heard of it. Still can't believe I missed the answer, though. How many popular 70s music genres are there? I could have sworn I typed "punk." Maybe I only tried "funk."
I thought it was about the band Queen the whole time, but I still figured the answer had to be the Sex Pistols, who else would call another band a fascist regime? Haha.
So where am I headed? Omaha!
The lines are:
God save the Queen
A fascist regime
Made you a moron
Potential H-bomb
Who is the song about, if it’s not written about some guy who’s so vain he’d probably think it was about him? So it is about him? Or not? Women…
