Recent events should have made clear that Russia isn't in the European Union. While Moscow and St. Petersburg may be *geographically* in Europe, they aren't in the *political* Europe. Although this quiz didn't specify....

That is very flawed logic, it doesnt have to be russians uploading the picture. More likely then not, most of these pictures will be taken by tourist from another country.

@Tinu, you make out like the Portuguese version of Porto is Oporto which is completely wrong. It's Porto in Portugal and it's only incorrect foreigners who think it's called Oporto.

The given source only lists the 25 cities in this quiz. That source refers to another site called sitesmap.com. That one is basically a map of photographs on panoramio.com. It looks like they included Vatican City into Rome. There's only a little marker for St. Peter's Basilica if zooming into the Rome area. The markers of big cities like Rome include Information about their world rank.

No Stockholm, Copenhagen, Munich, Seville, Ibiza; nothing at all in Switzerland - Lucerne, Zurich, Basel, Bern; very surprising. Also the top 6 is 5 coastal cities plus Paris - maybe shots of beaches and Eiffel Tower are where all the cameras are pointed!

as it concerns this quiz i would not consider Rome a coastal city: the historical center is 30km inland, and you can't even see the sea.

It DOES have a neighborhood on the sea (Lido di Ostia) but it has not any touristic appeal

It's home to Ostia Antica which is amazing, although I guess not many people who visit Rome have heard of it as it always seems very quiet except for the occasional school trip. Everyone seems to want to go to Pompeii instead, which is less interesting and a much longer & more expensive trip.

The only one you mention from the list that i might ve expected was copenhagen (the little mermaid), non of the others. I also expected the town stonehenge belongs to would be on here, besides eiffel tower ad the pyramids it must be one of the most photographed sites (sights?)

Stonehenge does not belong to any city, town or even village. It is the middle of wide open space (otherwise empty if you don't count the massive road passing it and the tourist centre) It is further away from 'civilisation' than the pyramids are nowadays.

It's actually the town of Φηρά (Fira), which is the capital of the island of Θήρα (Thira), which is also known as Santorini (Σαντορίνη).

World rank 121 according to the sources source. There are a few nice places in Frankfurt but the rank is justified in comparison to other cities. At least from what I've experienced.

I tried giethoorn, apparently it is famous with asian tourists and come by busload swamping the little village. By them it is considered a little venice because the houses are connected by water instead of roads. Never realised people made such a fuss about it untill i came across several websites where apparently it is a big deal

Turkey is in both of the countries, but the vast majority is in Asia, so it is an Asian country. İstanbul is also both in Asia and Europe, so it can be considered both

The true source on this no longer exists.

According the travel blog cited as the source, "...we looked at Sightsmap.com. Created by computer science professor Tanel Tammet, Sightsmap is a tool that maps Panoramio photographs taken across the world on an interactive map."

Panoramio, however, was discontinued as a service by Google. Sitesmap is still around but it still lists Panoramio as its source.

It isnt a uk list though. Probably interesting towns, but i cant think of anything famous to take pictures of there. Doesnt mean there arent, just not any sites they are really known for. Like eiffeltower for paris.

Last time I was in York you couldn't move for Japanese and Chinese tourists taking photos of either York Minster (gorgeous) or The Shambles (medieval street, allegedly the inspiration for Harry Potter's Diagon Alley)

Really surprised Pisa isnt here, it is one of those traditional photo things, like eiffel tower. Especially with 4 other cities on this list in italy. Especially florence, I mean you are nearly there allready, just a bit more than an hour away. Have your lunch on the train and you are almost there already.

I find it interesting that most quizzes on this site don't class Turkey as part of Europe and yet this one includes Istanbul. Technically it shouldn't be there as it's part of Asia although that can be debated. Perhaps it should be replaced with Vatican City based on above discussions.

London might not be as beautiful (debatable) as those two but it is certainly more iconic. Most people would recognise Big Ben, Tower Bridge, Tower of London etc but I for one would struggle to name a single photoworthy building/structure in Florence or Prague.

If you don't know any photoworthy sites in Florence or Prague, I suggest you visit both without looking up photos beforehand. They'll blow your mind.

Just not very photogenic? I live on the outskirts of London, so perhaps familiarity breeds contempt, but when you take photos of Florence or Prague they often look like works of art without you even having to try. London needs a lot of work, I think, not to just look grey, dull and (unfortunately) increasingly skyscrapery in comparison. Just doing a quick Google image search on the three cities shows the difference.

Now York, Oxford, Bath, Chester, Edinburgh – they are different kettles of fish.

It's in northern Spain. My guess is because of the beautiful landscape with its defining two beaches. It's especially beautiful from the hill between the beaches.
