20+ years ago I could have gotten all of these. Three cheers to those teams which forego corporate names for their ballparks!!

The Busch family no longer owns Anheuser-Busch, so Busch Stadium is now a corporate name, too.

Level 89

It always was. It just wasn't a clunky corporate sounding name. Older corporate names made somewhat more sense. Wrigley and Busch were heavily invested into the team or the stadium as owners, not renters of an empty name for X number of years until the high bidder game starts anew. Even if a company divested, the name stuck as tradition and continuity of team nostalgia.

Yeah, franchises that sell (or rent) their parks name make me stick two fingers down my throat.

Some of them are still better than others, though - the Great American Ballpark and Citi field sound a whole lot nicer than Minute Maid Park or Petco Park.

That's Citi as in Citigroup, a financial service company - just as barfy as Petco Park.

I think Skydome should be acceptable for Rogers Centre. I know it's not called that anymore, but most Jays fans still refer to it as Skydome. But awesome quiz either way!

The point of these quizzes is to know the CURRENT names. If you don't know the current names, learn them. If you don't want to learn them then you're not going to get a good score.

How some of mine went: Comiskey - dang it! Candlestick - dang it! Metrodome - dang it! Astrodome - dang it! Three Rivers - dang it! Shea - dang it! Tiger - dang it! Qualcomm - dang it!

I think it's been a while since I've really paid attention to baseball :/

May 28, 2018
Guaranteed Rate Field was (New) Comiskey Park from 1991-2003. I guess Comiskey works and U.S. Cellular (the name from 2003-2016, and the only one I remembered) doesn't because of QM's stated preference for non-corporate names.

If you're going to accept previous names than all of these need to be accepted -

SBC Park, Pacific Bell Park (PacBell Park) for AT&T Park

Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, Network Associates Coliseum, McAfee Coliseum, Overstock.com Coliseum for O.co Coliseum

Anaheim Stadium, Edison International Field (of Anaheim) for Angel Stadium

Bank One Ballpark for Chase Field

The Ballpark in Arlington, Ameriquest Field in Arlington, Rangers Ballpark in Arlington for Globe Life Park in Arlington

Jacobs Field for Progressive Field

Comiskey Park for US Cellular Field

SkyDome for Rogers Centre

And that is just for stadiums that have only been renamed and not replaced entirely.

Most Ironic Name (for contradicting the team mascot's objectification and utilization of indigenous people): Cleveland Indians ....... Most Depressingly Corporate Name: Chicago White Sox ....... Greatest Park Name Rivals: Houston Astros vs. Tampa Bay Rays (non-alcoholic division) or Colorado Rockies vs. St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers (alcoholic division)

+2
Level 63

Firstly, the OP didn’t express a preference regarding Chief Wahoo not being Progressive: it just isn’t.

And you know how you know Chief Wahoo WAS racist? Imagine a comparable version for literally any other minority group. What would an African-American, Latino, Jewish, Chinese, etc-version look like? It’d be horrifyingly racist.

I myself am Progressive and find Chief Wahoo to have been very racist. However, the NAME Cleveland Indians wasn’t racist, so them’s recently announced plan to change it bothers me as a baseball purist. The Washington Redskins HAD to change their name (it’s super racist unless it’s referring to potatoes), even if the mascot wasn’t racist; an offensive name and inoffensive symbol is the exact opposite of the Indians’ situation.

I just think changing the team’s name is a huge overreaction and for a team that has been named ‘Indians’ for over a century, it’s pretty sad.
