I feel quite weird when I see Netherlands and Norway sit between Thailand and UAE.

Good quiz. I only missed Kuwait. I seem to forget about its existence more than any other country.

Managed to complete with 1 second to go (usually the timer goes in those circumstances). Guessed Brunei and just managed to pick the rest in the region.

If you HAD included overseas territories, what else would be in here (other than Spain-UK for Gibraltar)? I can't think of any offhand.

I understand that Gibraltar-Spain should be as much valid as Ceuta-Morroco is.

No it is not. Ceuta and Mellila are more or less like Hawaii or Alaska. They are an integral part of Spain and of the EU, they have members in the spanish parliament. Gibraltar is more or less like Guam.

why even bother not including overseas territories, there is only one which would count

The thinking might be that it confuses some people, but the quiz could have it grayed out instead.

How about North Korea and China?

Actually they already are half of kingdom.

quite sure it was a joke, you know, since a one party system is basically a monarchy, not to mention how democratic it is for the democratic peoples republic of korea to elect the presidents son as new president, plus kim being voted in for life so

This argument works for North Korea sure, but the PRC has never had hereditary rule. The president has shifted between party members.

This confused me: "However, DOES include autonomous cities in Africa". I had already guessed Spain and Morocco and only missed Norway and Sweden because I spent a long time guessing African countries.

That confused me too. The only monarchy in Africa that I know of is Eswatini. I think the quiz was changed, the African cities were removed, but the caveat wasn't.

The quiz and caveats are correct. Morocco is a kingdom. Spain is a kingdom. They share a land border because Spain still has autonomous cities on the African continent.

So it's led by two 'princes' (monarchs) instead of one. Still a monarchy - at least as much as the other European countries on this list.
