Good that given different types of bodies of water are from different regions of the world.

Great quiz idea with a lot of potential for sequels. I had to think pretty hard about some of them.

Strange to see European and African rivers described American-style (XX River) rather than River XX.

I think the placement is pretty interchangeable in English usage. Sure there are examples like River Thames, where the 'river' usually goes first, but I've never heard 'River Amazon' used by an English speaker, nor have I ever heard that style used for any Australian river (Murray River, Brisbane River, Swan River all sound odd to my ear rendered the other way around). Asian rivers likewise sound odd rendered with the 'river' in front - I've certainly never heard 'River Yellow', 'River Mekong' or 'River Indus'. The Ganges usually just gets left without any river appended either side, but after seems the natural placing if it were. I think putting river first is more of a continental European thing, but is an archaic usage retained in relation to rivers in the UK, Europe and some particularly well-known rivers beyond (River Nile - and that one sounds just as normal in either order, at least to me). River Rhine or Rhine River both seem perfectly fine to me.

Also in general African rivers apart from the Nile sound more natural as 'XX River' to me - Congo River, Zambezi River...

I feel like adding Jinghong City or Luangprabang to the Mekong clue might be worthwhile to bring that clue in line with the others in having three settlements listed. Personally I'd suggest Jinghong as it is the larger city, avoids having two entries from Laos, and means that China, the country that half the Mekong is in, is represented.

Can Persia (as in Gulf of Persia) work for Persian Gulf?

100% right - as I learnt decades ago in the oil industry, don't call it Persian Gulf in Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, etc. - you may be on first dhow out of town!

I wouldn't say that Gothenburg is anywhere close to the North Sea. There are 2 bodies of water in between. Skagerrak and Kattegat.
