About a third of the questions are about hippie culture. I didn't know any of them. Even the image next to the quiz is of a hippie.

Agreed, maybe he meant questions that are set during the hippie period? Cause the questions themselves indeed rarely are about the hippie culture itself. Then again, the 2nd comment again mentioned hippie culture specifically... *shrugs* I give up... no idea how to explain this haha.

I would think and hope not violence/politics. so World fair, Sammy davis jr., Twist, and Monroe? (I also discounted space, toys, books and actors as subjects) are the only ones that would "make sense" (music and events) though they dont at all. I dont know anything about hippy culture either, but they are famous enough to know they do not have anything to do with hippies.

I grew up in the '60s and at most, as ColoHarpare and Sifraven said, three questions are about hippie culture which didn't begin in the US until the middle of the decade. And that photo may be a hippie look, but it appears too modern to really be from the '60s.

Nah. 1970 is the last year of the seventh decade of the 20th century, but 1960s are what the name says. 1960-1969.

It's not "simping," it's the truth. This happens all the time. The United States has made a huge impact on the world in recent years, and it's a huge country, both in terms of land and population, so of course there's going to be a lot of questions about it. Get over it.

Look. I understand America is influential. But let's say QM makes a quiz just like this and half of the questions are about Uganda. Everybody will be like "Wtfrick QM, why are they all about uganda?" Most people will think the quiz is quite odd. But if it's about the oh-so "beautiful" and "glorious" United States, nobody bats an eye. It's not even like these questions are world applying. Some questions I get, but a friggin dance move? Go to Moldova or something, go up to someone and ask them: "Do the Chubby Checker Twist!" They'll look at like you like you're mad! But if you ask them about actual American history that APPLIES to the entire WORLD, they'll know. All I'm asking is for a quiz to be made that you don't have to be American to understand

The problem with your Uganda analogy is that it's mostly known for being a poor country in Africa with a rising population, and Idi Amin. If there were more things to follow up on then there would probably be a bunch more Uganda questions. But there aren't. Sure, Marilyn Monroe singing Happy Birthday to the President doesn't sound like a big deal, and really isn't. But it's been referenced, parodied, and reenacted many times throughout the years. Don't believe me? There's a whole Wikipedia page about it. There are THOUSANDS of quizzes on this site that many non-Americans can understand whether the questions are about America or not.

But what do I know, right? I'm an American, so I guess maybe I should stop talking? Whatever. This is a complaint that's never gonna die as long as JetPunk still exists and Quizmaster's still making quizzes. Unless people like you let it die. Just stop. Please.

@jmellor13: 28% of site users are American, that doesn't make them a majority as they constitute a lot less than 50% of the participants on this site. @Jacktheguy: keep that stereotype going strong, you've got it nailed.

@blizzrd33: I assume the stereotype you are referring to is the one where I'm a loud, obnoxious American who can't possibly fathom the idea that there are other countries in the world and that the people in them should know everything there is to know about American culture. I hate to disappoint you, but that's not what this is. I'm sure plenty of things happened in the 1960s that took place in Australia or New Zealand or wherever you're from. Make a quiz on that and stop complaining.

I'm not dense at all. I understand that a *free* recreational quiz site run by like three people is not going to be able to please everyone. The Quizmaster, not you, gets to determine what his site will be. On what basis are you making these demands? Do you pay membership dues? Were you promised something to come to this site? Did someone guarantee quizzes catering equally to every nationality? No? Then where do you get this idea that he has to cater to you? If you go to a store (or a website), you are welcome to their inventory. You are welcome to request different inventory. You are *not* entitled to call them "absurd" for not having exactly what you want. Should I go on a European sports website and complain that there isn't enough coverage of the NHL? No, because it's not where they lay their focus, and the fact that *I* want to read about the NHL does not require them to change how they do things. It's up to them.

And if you're really that torn up about this, here's what you do: write a "1960's outside the US" quiz. Leave a comment on this quiz that says "if you want a 1960's quiz with a more global perspective, check out my quiz. Here's a link..." There you go. Problem solved. Now the masses clamoring for a more global quiz have an option, and they can click your quiz instead of leaving the same tired comment. The quizmaster on this site, like the quizmaster on *every* site, gets to decide what his site will be. He can recalibrate accordingly based on feedback to enlarge (or shrink, if he wants) his audience, but to make demands like he owes you something for visiting his *free* and very *recreational* website is preposterous.

The difference between your example with sports and what were talking about is the fact that Euro networks don't run NHL things because not a lot of people care about the NHL in places like Spain and France. However, this is a history quiz. Not everything needs to be about America. I'm sure that if you removed some of the USA-related answers and replaced them with other questions nobody would really care, however the abundance of America-centric answers gets me, a non-american, and others quite confused.

Now i'm not saying remove questions like the one about the Cuban Missile Crisis, because that was a worldwide thing. But please, for the love of god, I really don't care who sung Happy Birthday to the president. I don't know why that's considered such huge history. Whoop-dee-doo! Marilyn Monroe, an actress who was only famous for her looks, sang a song to the American president! Wowie Zowie! Call CNN!

Jetpunk is a trivia site after all. Trivial facts like Marilyn singing Happy Birthday attract users and generate traffic just as much as "serious" history questions. If anything I would call to include more events in other countries... but if there are too many questions that most quiztakers can't answer, it probably damages traffic too.

@noooolan, I am not saying no one can critique a quiz or advocate for a different manner of questions. It's the "how-dare-you!" attitude that rankles me. From what I can tell, the Quizmaster does most of this himself and works pretty hard to be fair-minded about things. But he's one guy. And I'm sure coming up with enough questions for countless quizzes is taxing, so he probably dips into the well he knows best -- the culture of his homeland. You seem to think it's an "America First" thing. I really don't think that's it. If he were French, the questions would probably skew French. I can also tell you, having run a pub quiz myself for a few years, that when you ask questions about what you don't know, you run into more problems. Sometimes your understanding of events or context is wrong. So, when in doubt, the clearest questions will come from what you know, not what you had to look up online. Go easy on the guy, is all I'm saying. He provides a really good service for free.

As someone who isn't American, secksmaster, your name is inappropriate and so is your logic. You're on a free site so stop whining and move on. The United States had the most significant cultural movement in the 1960s of any country in the world. If this were an 1890s quiz, then the Belle Epoque would be prominently featured. But it's the 1960s, so all of your complaints are baseless. If you learned about the year 2000 BC, would you complain that there are too many questions on Egypt and Mesopotamia? No, because they were the most influential civilizations at the time! Sure, whine all you want that the Valdivians only have one question, but do you really think the Valdivians were as influential as the Egyptians? No, just like most countries are not as influential on modern/popular history as the United States!
