He's a beast in his era you know. It's just that injuries destroyed him early
+2
Level 84

McAdoo was phenomenal with the Buffalo Braves, but they just couldn't compete with the NBA big boys. Though he expected to start, he was a major cog for the mid-80's "Showtime" Lakers coming off the bench, helping them win titles in 1982 & 1985.

The actual stats my trump my memory, but I recall at the time thinking that in '82 he was robbed of Finals MVP, which went to Magic Johnson. Magic was uber popular, but watching the series, it felt like McAdoo was the key.

Level 84

After McAdoo (pronounced MACK-uh-doo) finally won a championship with L.A. in '82, there was a sportswriter (for Sports Illustrated?) who summed-up McAdoo's career, which was riddled with can't-win-the-big-one criticism. Something along the lines of:

"McAdoo. McA-don't. McA-will. McA-won't....This time, McA-did!"

Agree. I saw one breakdown that said Lebron was probably the best player every year from 2006-2013. But I guess its boring to give it to the same guy all the time.

And even since then, which of the last five winners, if you'd substituted them for Lebron, would have dragged those Cavaliers teams to the finals the last three years?

17/31, like all sports, don't follow NBA religiously but got all those bar a couple from '76 to '03. Apart from Lebron, Kobe and Curry didn't get any others from '04 onwards - I've heard of them but couldn't remember who played in those years. NRL (rugby league) is what I played. Good quiz, not so easy for me!

Jerry West was an intriguing player and played incredibly throughout the National Basketball Association.

Let's talk about 1969. The apparent "stolen MVP" season. Wes Unseld was the second NBA player to win MVP in a rookie year. But Jerry West deserved that Most Valuable Player award.

You have Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Bob Pettit, John Havlicek, Willis Reed, etc. who could've easily won the Most Valuable Player, but assuming they're ranked higher than Jerry West on the leaderboard of best NBA players ever, that could certainly be the understanding of why Jerry West has never won MVP.

Lol, who would have thought Jokic would win MVP at the beginning of the season. They are going to get slapped by the Suns but still pretty cool that he won MVP.
+1
Level 67
Jun 10, 2021
Something interesting I read is that he's the lowest-drafted player (41st pick) to win. The second-lowest are Nash and Giannis (15th), and then Kobe and Karl Malone (13th). Pretty incredible that even 15th is generally too low to get an MVP. That's not the case with the other big four sports.

Hey the Suns series isn't over. Home team hasn't lost yet, Nuggs are still in it.

I had the Suns winning this series the whole way. But Jamal Murray's a thing. It's no knock on Jokic that he can't beat a talented team without Murray's help. (Even with Murray, this series is a toss-up for me though. I think the Suns go to the finals.)

Level 71
May 3, 2022
Who do you think will win MVP this year? I definitely think Jokic deserves it, seeing what he did with a skeleton crew of a team to the 6th seed in the western conference while having the first 2000/1000/500 season in NBA history
