Coming from someone who's been to Ohio, it's not really surprising. 2 of the 3 major cities, Cleveland and Cincinnati, have been losing a lot of people until recently. That means cheap houses. Even the more expensive newer houses in the outer suburbs of these cities are very cheap compared to somewhere like Colorado or Massachusetts, where the same house in the same type of neighborhood would be double or even triple the price.

Maybe, with people flooding out of upstate New York, that'll cheapen up too

I forgot about the Southeast. I thought those would be more expensive than some of the Midwest states I was guessing.

The fast-growing Southern states are pricier (Georgia, Florida, North Carolina), and the declining ones are cheap. Supply and demand I guess

Somewhat expected Detroit to drag Michigan into the top 10.

In England you pay $300,000 and get a shoebox.

Only near London. Out in York somewhere you could get a nice 2-bed bungalow for that.

Buying homes in New York city is typically more expensive than London. US just has a looooot more "out somewhere".

NY and CA aren't correct answers, though.

weird that you have such hatred for NY and CA considering thats where all your stuff comes from.

huh, I can't seem to find California or New York listed in this quiz here: https://www.jetpunk.com/quizzes/top-10-us-states-by-manufacturing-employment. I guess consultants and investment bankers don't actually make anything.

I guess it may have to do with the remoteness of the location. The cost to build a house must be expensive when you factor in shipping costs.

If you're someone that could work from home, West Virginia would be a great state to live.

and that's really what affects this. The fewer people want to live in a place... the cheaper the home prices are there. Supply and demand.
