A soldier that keeps watch could also be a sentry?

Yes, but sentry only has six letters. The correct answer requires eight.

I never even noticed that the quiz gives you the number of letters until I read your comment.

For the cowering in fear one, I also thought of "quake."

Fun series of quizzes, you managed to keep coming up with ever more obscure words :)

With only part of the word underlined, I spent 30 seconds just putting in the missing parts of the words. Any chance you could accept the answers that way?

Level 62
Sep 17, 2021
No chance. The complete word must be entered - this requirement is bolded, capitalized and underlined in the instructions! 500 words are built into this quiz, and some end in the same sequence of letters. To avoid the possibility of being awarded multiple answers for entering just the missing letters, the full word is required.

I kept entering frenzied which also has 8 letters :)

Me too. The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language gives “excessively agitated” as a definition of frenzied.

What a fabulous quiz. I've done it ten times in a row now. There have been a few repeats but largely a new quiz each time. You can tell that lots of research has gone into this. The clues are concise and accurate too.

I think labo(u)rsome fits the clue just as well as labo(u)rious

Nice quiz!

I know it's a bit too easy but could "theatric" be accepted for "relating to the theather"? Seems like it should work and it's eight letters

Not continuous; intermittent with the first 3 letters of SPO could very well be spotty in addition to sporadic.

Nymph is a broad term for female spirits of nature. They include forests, meadows, mountains, streams, etc. Naiads are nymphs that specifically inhabit water.

At the very least, Naiad (5 letters starting with an N) should alternatively be accepted. IMO, it should be the standard answer with nymph also being accepted.

I think "Common; dull" could also mean "Basic". The letters would fill in the blank nicely, too.
