Good quiz. Those of us who speak Romance languages have a distinct advantage, though!

I speak Spanish. It did not help me get Lapine. Maybe if I'd remembered more of Watership Down...

Rabbit is lapin in French but coneja in Spanish. Frog is rana in Spanish but grenouille in French. So if you speak more than one romance language you should be able to get them all!

It also helps to have done Latin. That kind of covers all of those later languages.

And "raine" is an old French word for frog, I think... vague memories from school!

Fun stuff! I happened to make almost this exact quiz a few weeks ago; the only ones I didn’t remember were deer, ant, and wasp. Luckily formic acid and word similarity saved me!

Aw that's sad... QM probably missed your quiz unfortunately :(

Oh, I have no qualms. I included bubaline in my quiz, so this one is probably more user friendly. I tend to put stupid little things in my quizzes to amuse myself. Anyway, Berney’s previous quiz on British history is amazing, so I’m happy more people will see it every time he’s featured. :)

Vulpix helped me get Vulpine! I imagine Ursaring is probably helpful for Ursine, though because of the Ursa Major, greater bear, constellation, I've known Ursine to mean bear

Ender's Game helped me get that one. Only one I missed was deer.

That makes no sense. If you got all the other ones, the last one would fall automatically into place. So either you were missing at least two, or none.

No, since you can click on the same answer for multiple animals, you can miss just one. I guessed "corvine" for goat and got it wrong, but then later guessed it correctly for deer, so goat is the only one I got wrong.

and I knew goat probably (at least originally) because in junior high school when I was playing Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers I learned that a human sacrifice in Haitian voudoun - cabrit sans cor - means goat without horns.

If I hadn't played that game, I may have still pieced it together from the chupacabra ("goat sucker") of Mexican folklore. Crazy all the little bits of trivial information that accumulate in our brains over the years...

Perfect score! So proud of myself. Non-native English speaker here, no romance language either :)

I knew the most common ones. That helped me narrow it down - but after that it got tough, and I felt like I am dismantling a bomb lol

Nice, only had to guess deer and frog and got them right.

I wouldn't have been able to produce the one for ant out of the blue though eventhough I knew the word. But for most of the others I think I could have given the word myself. (I think goat would also have been tough to produce, and maybe murine and might have said apian or something instead of apiarian. I think the others I could have come up with without a problem.

Nice exercise though!
