Wow, got them all on the first try. Kind of surprised at that. I've been to Florida only 3 times in my life and it has been 20 years since the last time.

The Seminole tribe don't come from Florida originally. They were a tribe made up of runways from other tribes in southern states Tennessee etc , who formed a tribe by uniting together in the swamps ( they also included some runaway slaves ) . After most were removed to Oklahoma the remainder went deeper into the swamplands and were undefeated and descendants are still living in Florida .Seminole actually means runaways.

The question doesn't say they originally came from there, it says it was once home to them

14/15 first try, only missed the Covid question. Florida has been used as a negative example quite a few times by German media in regard to the cases, but that's probably due to the big population (which makes it easier to compare to European nations) and the prominence of the state internationally.

In my experience California and NYC are mentioned more than Florida. I don't know about TV news though, I only check my news online.

Florida is considered an "open" state when it comes to Covid-19, which gives it a bad rap in the news. It is worth mentioning that California is one of the most restrictive states, but the rates are very similar when adjusted for population.

I agree! I’ve lived here since I was a child (many many years ago!) and I ❤️❤️❤️ it here! It makes me sad when people think we are a crazy toilet of a state. Sure some weird stuff happens, but no state is exempt from that. We are perfect for every age, childhood through senior citizens. Excellent quality of life. Why would everyone be flocking here if that were not true? Hoping we keep our Republican governor. Don’t want to end up like some of the states people are fleeing.

I'm sorry, but question 11 (Seminoles) is incorrect. Seminoles are from Georgia originally. They only split off from the Creeks and moved down here after disease and the Spanish wiped out most of the actual indigenous Floridians, like the Calusa and the Tequesta.

They never said they came from Florida, just that they lived there at some point which I believe they did.

Level 48
Mar 11, 2021
As others have stated, Seminoles ORIGINALLY come from Georgia/Alabama as part of the Creek that moved there after the Europeans came in (also some runaway slaves and such too). The answer should either be changed to "False," or reworded to something like "Before Oklahoma, the Seminoles lived in Florida"

The Seminoles were originally from Florida.

There were many Native American groups who escaped to Florida in the 18th century. They merged together and only then, in Florida, did they become the Seminole.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seminole

"The Seminole are a Native American people originally from Florida."

I said yes to Bezos being a FL resident because they have no federal income tax. Kind of like how a lot of corporations are technically HQ'ed in Delaware for tax reasons. Not to mention Bezos owns property in probably a dozen locations (being the richest guy in the world and all...) so its a tricky question

I think you're a little mixed up @OfTheMountain. Residents of Florida pay the same federal income tax as residents of the other 49 states. Florida has no STATE income tax, but neither does Washington, where Jeff Bezos has his primary residence.

Are you sure that Bezos and Gates are "centi" billionaires? I was of the impression that centi = 1/100. Perhaps Bezos and Gates are hectobillionaires where hecto = 100 not 1/100.

The latin/greek word root (centi) likely means something along the lines of 100. Just because it has been translated differently elsewhere does not mean that the meaning should've stayed the same.

San Juan was founded by the Spanish more than 50 years before St. Augustine. Either that needs to be the answer or you need to specify that territories don't count (which is dumb- they should, as they are part of the US).

Still waiting on a fix- Florida is not home to the oldest continuously-inhabited city in the US founded by Europeans. You really ought to clarify whether you're counting territories- it's hard enough to know the right answer without also trying to read your mind.
