Technically Jamaica isn't a part of Latin America, as it's an English speaking country.

Belize, Jamaica, Guyana and Suriname actually dont belong to Latin America

It really depends what source you use. Some put all of the Caribbean in, some say it's only every country in Pan-America that speaks a Romance language, and some take the whole Caribbean out and leave everything else. The Britannica definition is: "the entire continent of South America in addition to Mexico, Central America, and the islands of the Caribbean whose inhabitants speak a Romance language". This excludes Jamaica, but includes Belize, Guyana, and Suriname. So you can say that, but that only applies to some sources.

Surinamers speak Dutch, and Guyanese speak English which are Germanic, not Romance languages. Nevertheless, I believe that they belong exactly where they are, in South America. I don't understand how middle and high school students will ever learn geography properly, when we keep inserting our political and cultural beliefs into the geographic locations of countries.

Depends how you look at it. I think this helps students learn geography and social studies and that there are differences between (and overlaps of) the two. It makes no sense to look at the world through only a geographic point of view or only a cultural or political point of view when all three (and others) exist and are important.

The caveat says Spanish or Portuguese prevailing countries, yet Haiti (French/Creole speakers) is included
+5
Level 67
Mar 2, 2020
The caveat is incorrect. It says it is only for Spanish and Portuguese, but Haiti is also on the list, and it is a francophone nation. Please fix either the caveat or the quiz.

If that is something you see as aesthetically important as I do, there is a way to have every country border the one asked before: Mexico-[...]-Panama-Colombia-Venezuela-Brazil-Uruguay-Argentina-Paraguay-Bolivia-Chile-Peru-Ecuador-islands

Please add France to the list. The caveat says "area of the Americas where french prevails". Since French-Guyana is a regular Departément of France and French is their main language, you have to add it.
