Good quiz. Very easy apart from Confederacy of Dunces which I've never heard of (that probably makes me one).

Read it. It's one of the funniest, most profound books I've ever read. It's John Kennedy Toole's only book--he killed himself after writing it, before it was published. What a waste.

Third or fourth or fifth that. One of the funniest yet evocative novels of the twentieth century.

Disappointed that it accepted "Ann" when I'm pretty sure Anne Shirley insisted her name was spelled with an "e".

"Remembrance of Things Past" has definitely fallen out of favor as the translation of the title of Prosts's multi-volume masterwork; it is more correctly translated to "In Search of Lost Time". FYI.

Without this comment I would never have connected the two.

Because in French the title is "À la poursuite du temps perdu" (titles don't have every word capitalized like in English) and "In Search of Lost Time" is a better translation of it. Oddly, though, most often in French it is referred to as "La Recherche" (the search).

I don't think it's odd because I've always known the French title as "A la recherche du temps perdu". I've never heard of "A la poursuite..."

Fun quiz, but maybe too much time allowed? I couldn't get five of the titles (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Memoirs of a Geisha, Remembrance of Things Past, A Confederacy of Dunces and The Way of All Flesh), but there was so much time remaining, I was able to Google them and get 100%.

It’s central to the character of Anne Shirley in Anne of Green Gables that her name be spelled with an “e”. When she first moves to her new home she lies and says that her name is Cordelia because she wants her name to be interesting and pretty (I don’t remember the precise words she uses), rather than a plain name like Anne. But she insists that if people have to call her Anne, please spell it with an “e”. When her new guardian asks her what difference it makes how it’s spelled Anne says it makes a huge difference!

That it does. My name is also Anne, and I am very defensive about my 'e'.

She is very particular about her "E". And Katherine with a "K" is far more interesting than Catherine with a "C". Anne has very definite opinions.

The Grapes of Wrath was good but IMO the last two in the trilogy - The Avocados of Gluttony and the Pinto Beans of Lust - were less derivative and a more satisfying read.
