Tried record player, then gramophone (and I'm not British). No one to blame but myself.

I went totally the wrong direction...theremin, Moog machine (although it was almost certainly invented by someone named Moog), metronome (surely predates Edison), autotuner, player piano....then I remembered hearing about 1,000 times that Edison invented the phonograph and finally got it right.

I've seen some Doctor Who. It's not my favorite show, but I still find it enjoyable.

That being said I'm a big Queen fan, so... no to RealXboxNerd.

81% know about Guy Fawkes but only 43% about Jefferson Davis?
+3
Level 72
Nov 1, 2021
Jefferson Davis is exactly the sort of historical figure people go "yeah that guy, what's-his-name"
+1
Level 76
Nov 3, 2021
Unless you're not American (in which case it would make sense to not know), the Civil War was the most important period in U.S. history since it's founding. Davis is not some insignificant figure. Ugh, these public schools.
+4
Level 83
Mar 11, 2023
I think the 'unless you're not American' is key here. A lot of people on this site aren't, and almost nobody will cover even the broad facts of the American Civil War in school.

Level 78

V for Vendetta surely has a lot to do with that.

As for Jefferson Davis... it's a political figure that is not very relevant outside of the US.

+3
Level 82
Nov 5, 2021
Nobody wears Jefferson Davis masks. Inside or outside the United States. But implying that he's somehow less internationally relevant because he was American... than some guy who failed to blow up parliament in 1605... is just... I'd say mind-boggling except that it's not.

Charles is a king now, not a prince - I guess he was a prince when he was born tho? So might not need to be changed
