Are camels just not common in Iran for some reason?

Apparently not

They are in the east, but not in the west or north. It may be that the reporting is inadequate.

Kinda surprised Egypt and Iran don't make it. They seem to be surrounded by very camel-ly places.

Chad has a human population of 16M (estimated), and a camel population of 8M, that's a lot of camels per capita!

I question the validity of that quiz given its still happening in many countries. Places like Saudi Arabia and Qatar treat migrant workers like slaves. Filipinos and Indians are sent to work all around the world in horrendous conditions that any reasonable person would call slavery. Hell even in the US, slavery is still legal if you are convicted of a crime.

Interesting quiz, good concept. Expected to see Kazakhstan on the list but think it just missed out. How many (if any?) of these countries in the list are based on a majority of bactrian (two humps) camels?

Mongolia definitely is, I was surprised that it was the least guessed and assumed it was because people just forgot about the poor bactrian camels.

The two-humped ones are easier to ride -- you ride between the humps. Btw in Somaliland, I had quite a good camel pizza.

I'm sorry, but I refuse to believe that 74% of quiz takers correctly identified "Eritrea" as a nation with a high camel population, without Google. In fact, I wouldn't believe that 74% would identify Eritrea as an African nation without Google. Remember, y'all, when you cheat, you're only cheating yourself.
+19
Level 68
May 2, 2021
Eritrea is the only one I missed, but I can definitely identify it as an African nation (and on a map) without Google! Keep in mind, Jetpunk users are not indicative of the general population. A large percentage of users can ace the countries of the world quiz, and then end up doing a lot of other geography quizzes. So on a quiz like this, when you know the general part of the world you're going for, it's not hard to figure it out.

I just listed countries in the middle east and north africa, so eritrea and djibouti were both among my guesses. I imagine more than 74% of regular Jetpunk users can name all the countries in the world, let alone Africa.

JetPunkers could, but the Countries of the World Quiz, being the most popular quiz, is probably the first one a lot of newbies take.

I think it's a fair amount.

The country least guessed in countries of the world here in jetpunk is São Tomé and Príncipe with 23%, so at most 23% knows every country of the world hahaha

the amount of people who knows eritrea there is 37%, so we should expect that at most 37% of jetpunkers knows eritrea.

That been said, lots of people probably did that quiz and barely made level 20, which is very low. The lowest level of anyone who commented at this quiz is 35, more casual jetpunkers probably wont get to this quiz, it is definetely possible that 74% of people in here knows of eritrea.

I tried Eritrea and Djibouti but forgot Ethiopia and Tunisia. Once you learn all the countries some stick out in your mind more than others. I do believe most of the regular quiz takers on here know Eritrea.

Jetpunk isn't indicative of the normal population. Almost everyone on here is at least above average in terms of geographical knowledge. Eritrea isn't far away from other countries on this list.

personally i guessed eritrea as i was going through the sahel nations, as they all traditionally travel by camel, also when someone guess somalia and ethiopia the next viable guess would be ethiopia. someones a little bit salty they didnt indentify a certian caeml nation

JetPunkers are not stupid. Eritrea is not that small, and it's quite powerful for its size. You can refuse all you want, it's in the region you'd expect camels to be in, and is an obvious choice. Just because you got 3/20 doesn't mean anyone cheated.

Level 76

Some of the surprising misses are probably because of economic factors. People in Iran and Egypt are well-off enough to not have to rely on camels for subsistence, as opposed to Sudan and Eritrea, for example. The Gulf states seem to break this rule, obviously.

So... Algeria and Tunisia are there, but Morocco for some reason not... I would never guess so, Morocco was a no-brainer for me and I did not even bother type Tunisia, when Morocco was not accepted.

I still do not get it. Mauritania has over million camels with such a small population and Morocco none? What happened to Morocco? For me it is a bit shock.
