Couldn't spell Chesapeake for the life of me. Kept spelling it Chesopeake.

Cascade is not the same thing as CASCADES???? Pretty stupid, if you ask me
+1

Cascade will work now. Also changed the clue so that "Coast Range" is not valid.
+1

I almost didn't get the Cascades because it's so rare that they're on a quiz and because I only associate them with Washington state, not B.C. or Oregon. Silly me.

Yes, silly you. Easy question for me, having grown up in Oregon.

p.s. The dividing line between the Cascades and the Coast Range is the Fraser river, not the Canadian border.

It is the "Cascade Range."

no offense to other north american countries, but the U.S. has much more material to work with for a quiz than other countries

"and quiz takers"

whose fault is that?

+18
Level 82
May 23, 2018
It's nobody's fault, Rey. It's just the way it is and there's nothing wrong with that. If Guatemala was 100x larger and more ecologically and culturally diverse, with 300 million people living there and many more big famous cities, and had made considerably more notable contributions to world history and culture, and most of the users of the website came from Guatemala, then there would probably be more questions about Guatemala.

Level 68
May 25, 2018
Yeah, imagine if a country like Brazil were the size of the United States, were culturally and geographically diverse, had 200 million people living there with lots of major cities and had notable contributions to world history and culture, there would surely be at least one question about Brazil.
+1
Level 72

Yeah... no. Name one brazilian TV show or movie that's watched all around the world. Nothing? That's what I thought.
+2
Level 82
Mar 27, 2019
Pacha: right. Even Brazil comes up short, in spite of it's larger size and population relative to Guatemala, it still trails in every category I listed next to the US (size, diversity, population, # of large cities, # of famous cities, historical and cultural significance, # of JetPunk users), by very substantial margins in some cases. I'm sure we could have added at least one question about it, though. Maybe.. Carnaval?

@TheCrusher I watch no US TV shows, because I watch no TV. Do watch plenty of US films, BUT oh dear, you could have had City of God (Cidade de Deus) - an extremely brilliant and well known film - in this very quiz.

+39
Level 83

I don't know about anyone else, but, given the clue, I was trying to think of "Cape C..." rather than realising that the "C" was that of "Cape".

I think Cape Horn should be changed, or moved to the 'H' quiz.
+1
Level 78

Yes, I agree. It's misleading. It's only the word Cape that begins with C, and that's given in the clue.

moreover, reasoning this way, every "cape" should belong to "c" category, every mountain to "m" category, every lake to "l" and so on... to me, this does not make any sense, i humbly suggest to remove the question

Nov 15, 2017
Capo de Hornos should count, IMO.
+1
Level 66
May 23, 2018
If you mean Cabo de Hornos, I agree. Additionally, I'm in favour of accepting Cape Hoorn, as it was named after the city of Hoorn in the Netherlands. I admit that I'm rather biased in this matter though, as it's “Kap Hoorn” in German, so I'm used to the spelling with oo.
+1
Level 66
Oct 22, 2019
I actually didnt know that and I ve been there several times visiting a friend. I thought it was like horn of africa, or has that also been named after Hoorn? I dont think so, but cant find the etymology yet. (while for cape horn it indeed gives you the reference to the city).

I know tons of things were named by the dutch, but never realised this was one of them.

As others have said...would have gotten a perfect score but for Cape Horn...since that would be an "H"...Cape Cod, sure...

Or Canaveral
+4
Level 75
Mar 15, 2021
I got it, but I was half expecting it to be wrong as I was typing. Hard to believe relessness/QM have overlooked this for so long, definitely should be replaced imo. Canaveral or Cod, OK, but it's pretty US-heavy already.

I agree with Kal above that carnaval should be included, since it's huge in so many places in the Americas. That would be a fine replacement.

edit: Sorry relessness, just noticed you asked for it to be changed 3 years ago... Pull your finger out QM!

Level 48
May 23, 2018
hmmmm Cape Horn is misleading because if 'Cape' is in the question already you think it does not count as a C word so I was looking for a cape that starts with C not any other letter.Other than that great!
+5
Level 61
May 29, 2018
That is exactly why I didn't even bother typing it...I thought of it and moved on, because Horn doesn't start with C. I figured there must be another Cape down there that started with a C.
+3
Level 68
May 23, 2018
Didn't throw me. Let me see, what is the cape at the bottom of South America? It is Cape Horn, and that starts with C. :-)
+5
Level 74
May 23, 2018
But, as has been stated and repeated many times, the fact that the question asked for a "Cape" makes the Cape part of the name in the answer redundant. I think we all knew it was Cape Horn but were fooled by the fact that it said "near to" and then I, for one, started self-examining and asking myself "why the heck don't I know a cape that starts with C close to Cape Horn........"

I think this is far too US-centric, even for an Americas quiz. 8/22 questions involve the states and there are plenty of other C answers possible: Cayenne, Caracas, Clipperton, Castries, Concepción, just to name a few.

Can you please replace Cartagena with Cali?
+1
Level 70

Why? Cali was my first thought too but its not coastal. Also then the question regarding California would need to change.

Also starts to make it too easy- Cartagena seems fine as it is

I'd replace the Cape Horn question, because it's really an "H" answer. Just like the Bay of Fundy would be an "F" answer, and not a "B" answer, and Mount Denali would be a "D" answer and not an "M" answer.
