Phrasing it as "Who or what was THE Danegeld?" is kind of a giveaway that it is not a person.

The Fonz was a person, albeit fictitious.

I knew it was probably wrong but I had to guess the warrior who castrated Danes. Only one I missed.

Might want to revise this question: "Who pointed his finger at YOU in the famous WWI recruiting poster?"

"HIS" - automatically eliminates two of the choices since they are obviously female

Although the thumbnail picture of a fella with a moustache pointing also kind of eliminates Queen Victoria and the goddess

Indonesia (at least Java) was briefly part of the British empire, from 1811-1814.

Only the decimalisation question wrong. I'm too young to remember the old Harry Potteresque money: 12 pennies to the shilling, 20 shillings to the pound and 17 sickles to the galleon

Robert Burns only lived in Edinburgh for a couple of years, spending most of his 37 years in Dumfriesshire.

British history or English?

I'd say seven or eight (depending on interpretation) of the questions are not English-specific, and an additional one is about Roman Britain, which predates England and the UK (as political entities), so it is British (but with some English bias).

British.

Adam Smith was born in Kirkcaldy, not Edinburgh. He lectured in Edinburgh, but actually spent most of his life in Kirkcaldy, it's also where he spent ten years writing his most famous work - "The Wealth of Nations". I'm from Kirkcaldy and it's literally our claim to fame so people who says he's from Edinburgh annoy us just a teeny little bit.

Understandable that it's annoying to you, but "home to" can mean just that - Edinburgh was Smith's home for a time.

I love Fife as much as the next man, but you'd be really testing people's knowledge to involve Kirkcaldy in this quiz.

I get the frustration though!
