Cool quiz. Never heard of Aster, so I looked him up—apparently he made his fortune by fur, opium, and real estate. Interesting guy for sure.

He has both a section of Queens, NY and a city in Oregon named for him: Astoria.

I believe Americans were called Doughboys because they giggled when you poked their tummies.

"Fool me twice, shame on me." Is that a reference to George W. Bush? If yes, then technically it should be: "You ain't gonna fool me again!" As in: "Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice"--long pause while the wheels of his mind slowly turn and he realizes he screwed up the saying--"you ain't gonna fool me again!" Bless his heart. I remember when I thought Dubya was as dumb as an American president could possibly be....

Pretty sure it's a reference, but it doesn't have to be what he actually said. You got it, I got it. People will get it.

Interesting quiz, as a Brit I knew there would be a few I was going to be guessing at that an American would probably know straight off, but there are some interesting questions/answers in there.

American time zones were created by the Interstate Commerce Commission, which was empowered to do so by the Standard Time Act (1918). Responsibility for time zones was transferred to the Department of Transport in 1966. Before 1918, railways had to have a set time to have timetables, but those times were not adopted by the nation. Towns all set their own time, usually by the sun. Now you have a head start if you want to do the quizzes in my series "It's about time".
