Elk should be accepted for moose (it can refer either to another species or to moose https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moose).

No, they are two very different animals. African buffalos are huge, wildebeest are around the same size as a zebra.

My understanding is that the rats the Maori brought to New Zealand were not stowaways - they brought them to eat.

Regarding the New Zealand question, there were bats that predated humans, which I would consider as land mammals. In addition, there is evidence for archaic terrestrial mammals, implying the likelihood that there were other terrestrial mammals on the islands before humans.

Same here. I assumed ped meant foot, and I was trying to think of any mammal with notable feet - I thought of webbed feet, two feet, four feet, etc. I should have remembered the word pinnacle, then maybe I would have thought of pointed feet or flipper. (But probably not.)

alright, I tried the real name for the "Opossum" and it didn't work. I tried the most commonly used name "possum" and it worked and input opossum...not sure why

Since ox is written as "ox" I thought it was intended as, not really an ox. As you sometimes see in wordjokes . Artic fox really fits the description as it is given imo.

bad wordjoke I just made up as an example. What "bell" cant you ring: a dumbbell

There are species of native land mammals in New Zealand the long tailed bat and the lesser short tailed bat. This pre dates Polynesian settlement.
