Man, there a LOT of Poles in the UK! Also surprised at the number of Irish and Jamaicans in the UK. Obviously both have ties to the country historically (and Ireland is of course very close geographically) but it's still surprising considering that the two countries have small populations.
It seems Australians are everywhere, too. I've never seen a culture with so much wanderlust! And it's kinda weird, because the Kiwis are relative homebodies.
Given the population ratio I feel like I run into more Kiwis than Aussies abroad, relatively. It should be 4:1 in favor of the Aussies but in my experience it's more like 2:1 or 3:1. Met a lot of Kiwis in South Korea. And just met two at a hostel in Sofia last week.
Are there any poles still in poland? ;) Because it seems the other half is in the netherlands, and I would guess a lot in germany aswell. You would think there wouldn't be any left! ;)
Excuse me, what? How is that racist? From his name, it's easy to see he's probably Polish. It's always a good feeling to see your country at the top of the list, and he's just saying he's disappointed it's not. Nothing at all about that was racist in any way. I don't even know how you came to that conclusion.
I don't think seeing your own country at the top of an immigration list is a good thing. It means that huge numbers of people are desperate to leave your country.
It's quite possible that Dzuliet17 (female, I am guessing...) is sad that so many young poles leave Poland. In my experience of Polish people coming to the UK, they are the most determined, hard-working people you are likely to meet.
My guess is that Dzuljet felt sad that many Poles were emigrating to find opportunity? Quite some change over the last ten years it would seem, given economic growth in Poland.
Irish and American immigrants don't use violence to force their religions or customs on UK citizens. In fact, most Irish and Americans share the same values as UK citizens, so assimilation isn't much of a problem.
If "some" is enough to make such a sweeping statement then it can also be said that ("some") Irish and American immigrants do the same thing. If, on the other hand, we are talking about trends that apply to enough people within a group to be relevant when talking about the group as a whole, the most important example of literally what TP suggested would probably be corporal punishment of one's own children rather than, for example, terrorism. I imagine this differs significantly between immigrant groups but it doesn't seem to be something that anti-immigrant rhetoric is directed against, perhaps because the social conservatives tend to support or at least be equivocal about it themselves.
There's so many polish people because of the connections between the countries in the war. Polish people would come to the UK to help work in exchange for the UK helping Poland in the war.
Not really, it's more that 2 million people left Poland after they joined the EU in 2004. And they tended to move to the countries with the strongest economies i.e. Germany and the U.K.
I think (don't know if it is similar in all countries) The first initial generation usually are extremely hardworking, it is often the next generation that is born, that can have a tendency to get into trouble. They are inbetween 2 cultures, with a lot more freedom and opportunities than their parents.
It is hard to explain this in text in a different language, hope it comes across as intended.
In unpolished words what I often see; first gen very hard working and often very humble (depending on country of origin) moreso than people from the country they migrated to. Next gen often very spoilt, can get away with a lot. Though youth in general seem to feel a lot more entitled than a few generations ago (or even 25 years). It has nothing to do with "race" just mix of 2 cultures. Similar aged people in the country of origin life a very different life and usually get into trouble less.
Nothing of this is about how the amount of crime compares between immigrants and non immigr
Its great travelling through our cities and seeing all the different supermarkets and what have you. I had a teacher in school that used to called Bradford 'Bradistan'... Supermarket on one of the main streets into my city called 'Islam Foods', I wonder what they sell there lol!
The ONS figures are very debatable. I thought I knew that there were far more people of French nationality in the UK. The question is who has been counted. And of course the number of illegal immigrants is very difficult to count.
I expected Turkey to be on this list. There are a lot of Turks and Turkish businesses in North London. Also some sources claim that the UK's Turkish population is above 100,000.
baffled why Hungary isn't on the list since even according to the linked source there are 116K hungarian born people in the UK and in reality there are way more
For those that missed the smiley face, I meant that as a joke.
Personally I think it's great to see so many different nationalities and cultures enriching us.
