I was very plesantly surprised that you accepted "bouclier canadien"! I knew it was the answer but not what the English translation was, so I typed it in French mostly out of frustration and for lack of anything else to do.... and then pop! "Canadian shield" appeared. So thank you very much! And this way I know I'll remember in English for the next time ;).

The Canadian Shield just wafted out of the air and landed on my fingers while I was typing. Had no earthly idea that I even knew that answer.

Doesn't Panama still connect North America to South America? Sure, you have to cross the canal and brave many miles of dangerous, untamed jungle as you approach Colombia but it still connects the two!

Surely we should consider renaming the Mississippi the Great River at some point. And surely Denali can be renamed again to Great Mountain.

Well, for what it's worth, Canadians don't refer to their portion of the "Great Plains" as such - it's just known as the plain old "Prairies."

Nah, it wouldn't match the theme of all the other super original names. It's not just ANY salt lake--it's the GREAT salt lake. I mean, according to us.

Please DO NOT accept "Mt Mckinley," "Mount Mckinley," or "Mckinley" for Denali. As of last year the mountain's official name is Denali, and Mount Mckinley is incorrect. It would be like accepting "New Amsterdam" for "New York."

353 years ago New Amsterdam was changed to New York, I think the name 'New York' is fairly well established now. Whereas the change from Mt. McKinley to Denali was made official in Aug 2015. I think it may take a little while for everyone to get used to the change. (BTW: Obama only made the switch late in his stint as President when he was no longer in fear of losing the Presidency by alienating the powerful Ohio vote, the birthplace of President William McKinley, for whom it was christened in 1896.)

Malbaby is correct. No matter how many times they change the official name of the Boston Garden (home of the Bruins and the Celtics), for example, it will always be known as the Garden by Bostonians. Denali may be "correct," but it does not follow that McKinley is incorrect.
