Also, shouldn’t Tbilisi work for the fourth category in the pink section?
+3
Level 68
Mar 4, 2020
Yep, looks like I made a mistake in the spreadsheet :P

However, to prevent there being two answers for the final category I've reworded the 4th clue to remove Tbilisi as a possibility.

+1
Level 67
Mar 5, 2020
The fourth clue requires the capital to be landlocked or the country to be landlocked. Tbilisi is not on the coast, hence it still satisfies the 4th clue.
+6
Level 68
Mar 5, 2020
Georgia is not landlocked though
+1
Level 82
Mar 5, 2020
Then maybe you should put AND instead of OR. As it stands, Georgia/Syria doesn't have to be landlocked for Tbilisi/Damascus to count.
+3
Level 88
Mar 5, 2020
"...which is landlocked, or whose country is" would narrow it down to a capital. Otherwise Laos is a country whose country is landlocked, which makes no sense unless you get the U.K. crowd with their lost hope definition of a country.

Tbilisi fits all descriptions.

+1
Level 68
Mar 5, 2020
This is all because the answer can be a country or capital... I'll change it to and even though that makes it incorrect for the potential country.

Edit: Okay, due to countries and capitals being possible, I think this is the clearest and most accurate explanation now. "... which is landlocked and whose country/capital is"

I wouldnt exactly call it clear... during the quiz I didnt waste time to try and decipher it, just guessed something which luckily worked. Afterwards i spend some time trying to understand what you could have meant, I got there in the end, but it took a while (after a few dead ends "ow it is this!" "ow wait, no it cant be..." "Ow I see! wait, no, not that either"

So perhaps technically not incorrect, but not clear. I ll see if I can find a way to rephrase it so it flows better, (so you instantly get it and not as something you ll have to untangle first ;))

But please dont be discouraged from making these, :) one of my favourite types

Perhaps simply : of which both the capital and country is landlocked?

Might not be perfect but atleast it is clear and cant be totally misunderstood.

Does the notion of "landlocked" also apply to cities? I would rather talk of inland cities... In my opinion, there is no problem with "which is landlocked or whose country is"... some people like to argue semantics when the question is obvious with a bit of common sense.

The Blue Category 4th statement - Have "a star" on them. This is misleading. I was thinking of countries with just a single star. But, Syria (the other answer) has two.

You could otherwise write "Has Star(s) on them". That would avoid confusions.

I would not call that misleading (so did not need to be "fixed" but well less room to argue about it this way :) ). On a question "has red on it" are you confused aswell and think about flags with only red and no other colours?.

Has a star is perfectly fine. Now if it said has one star, I would tend to agree (though technically still true, it is not what it implies and would be like : "which month has 28 days. All of them" which is technically true, but not what is implied and just people trying to be a smartass imo)

It doesn't work for Green as it doesn't have less than 7 letters. Doesn't work for Blue as it doesn't have green on its flag, and doesn't work for Pink as it doesn't contain the letter S. Remember it has to satisfy ever category in the group, not just one of them.

Regarding the orange categorie, i feel that Malé, capital of the Maldives, should also be a correct answer.

-in asia

-containing the 'e'

-south or tropic of cancer

-one word

-definitely has (far more) then 50% of the total population of the Maldives

+1
Level 68
Jan 25, 2024
The last one is wrong, surprisingly. The city itself (not including other districts), had around 211k in the 2022 census. The total population of Maldives is estimated to be over 550k.
