Youngest by far is Utah at 30.1 years.

A result of residual polygamy in southern Utah?

Probably not. I would guess it has to do with a high fertility rate among mainstream Mormons.

The "oldest" median age? Surely that should be "highest"? :)

Funny quiz, though. Those states are a mixture of places that are de-industrializing, have taken few recent immigrants and in one case (Florida) serves as a magnet for retirees.

Yeah it made it more interesting than lots of these because there's so much going on behind the scenes.

2 cases, Maine is clogged with retirees and summer people pricing residents and families away from the coastal economy.

Gotta love those East Coast States like Montana, Michigan, and West Virginia. Even Vermont and Pennsylvania aren't technically on the coast.

Surprised Arizona isn't on here, with all of the people who come to Phoenix to retire.

I was shocked to not see that one too. I would think there would be a lot in Tucson and Sedona too

Good point. Could be that young people locating to the Sun Belt and a higher native fertility rate offset all the retirees coming to AZ. Will be interesting to see where it ranks in another 10 years or so.

Immigration probably explains it. Texas is the second youngest state after Utah.

How is Florida not #1

The coast of Maine has become unaffordable as it's become a commodity to be bought and sold, taken over by temporary summer residents and a few imported year-round retirees. . There's nothing inland to keep anyone there. But then again, it doesn't look like the Midwest.

There are a lot of retirees in Florida but there are also a lot of younger people moving there for various reasons as well as a lot of new immigrants.

I did not understand that one - I was trying to name the earliest states in the union - so still got 7/10 for trying all of New England....
