The Jarvis Bay is part of the ACT. It is just a part given to the capital territory in order that it could border with the ocean.

Level 55

Even though it was made so the ACT has access to the ocean, it is still a completely different territory

Jervis Bay Territory has never been part of the ACT, that is a misconception. It was set up to be a federally-controlled port but was never intended to become part of the ACT.

The Chatham Islands are one of the 17 regions of New Zealand, and it doesn't include the other 16 either, so it's being consistent by not including the Chatham Islands.

Tairawhiti, East Coast, and East Cape are all valid names for the Gisborne region of New Zealand. It is most commonly referred to as the East Coast, with Tairawhiti being the Maori name that is being used more and more often (Source: I'm from there).

New Zealand (the country), Cook Islands and Niue are co-equal members of the Realm of New Zealand. So you'd either need to give as answers NZ, Cook Islands and Niue, or the first-level subdivisions of each of these places.

Wow, another amazing subdivision quiz! I could tell a lot of effort was put into this. Just one, very, very slight request would be for "Moresby" to be an excepted type in for "Fort Moresby".

newzealand itself is a first-level subdivision of the realm of new zealand together with cook islands, niue and tokelau. either treat these as seperate countries or make new zealand one subdivision

Tokelau is actually a second-level subdivision, but the quiz has been updated.
+1
Level 76
Jan 3, 2023
If Tokelau is a second-level subdivision, then that would mean that New Zealand is both a first-level subdivision of New Zealand and a second-level subdivision of New Zealand, and that the 17 regions of New Zealand are third-level subdivisions of New Zealand, and that is starting to seem pretty absurd.

Why do the tiny countries have so many divisions?

Populations:

Nauru, Tuvalu- 10k

Palau 20k

M.I. 55k

FSM, Kiribati, Tonga 100k

Size:

Nauru, Tuvalu 10sqmi

MI 70

Palau, FSM, Tonga, Kiribati 175-315

Is it a jobs program or some kind of financial fudging/foreign aid thing?

Or maybe many of them still operate more like tribes?

I don't know much about Oceania. I know Nauru had corruption issues/was blacklisted. I've seen Tuvulans playing soccer on their airport, and they seemed pretty normal/modern.

Seems like divisioning would just increase divisiveness. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that a population of 10-50k on a secluded island would be better ruled by a king, than set up a bureaucracy. Especially with a homogenous society .

Why is American Samoa not there if Samoa is there and American Samoa is essentially a part of Samoa? I get that it's a country but still, you put Jarvis Bay. Why is it accepting Jervis Bay and not Jarvis Bay? Why is Jarvis Bay even there when its a part of ACT/NSW? Why is Chatham Islands not there but Jarvis Bay is? There's much more wrong with this came from...
+5
Level 55
Mar 18, 2023
1. American Samoa is there

2. no it's not part of Samoa

3. It's Jervis Bay

4. It's a separate ADMINISTRATIVE division from ACT

5. Chatham Islands is part of NZ proper

Adding on to point 4 (from wikipedia):

The Jervis Bay Territory is administered by the federal Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities. However, it is counted as part of the ACT for the purpose of the ACT's representation in the Senate; it forms part of the Division of Fenner for House of Representatives purposes.

Only accepting the correct spelling seems reasonable to me, that way people might actually learn how to spell it.

But at least be consistent, there are some very forgiving typings, so why target one misspelling and not the rest? Just spell Kyrgyzstan correctly, what's the big deal? And if it's just to be nice, then be nice here too.
