I agree this is a bit sneaky, but these (asphalt) roads through are the main road network in the Vatican, albeit because there's no space for actual highways.
Parts of unfinished highways that are already finished. You can look at source #7 to see the full planned network. In that image the green parts exist, the red ones are under construction, the blue ones are in construction planning and the grey ones still have to be planned. I only drew the green and red ones as that's what currently exists, if the full network is finished everything should be neatly connected
This is a really cool quiz, one of the best ones I've ever seen, visually speaking. I think it would be interesting to see one of these with US states at some point too, especially since their road networks don't always conform as well to their shapes.
I originally had a few harder ones in here as well that did not conform to the shape of the country at all but they were deemed too hard, so I had to replace them before this could be featured. US states does sound interesting though!
They are indeed the roads through the gardens, but they are asphalted. They are not highways, but the largest roads they have there. However, I do agree with you that it can be a bit tricky
I got it. :) Just seems funny to identify the paths, alleys, and driveways in the Vatican as part of a "major road network." Cool quiz. I only missed Poland which annoyed me since I've made my way across Poland's road network 4x in my life and two of those times were with store-bought paper maps since GPS didn't exist yet. Should have gotten that one. The way the "major" roads there seem to appear and disappear in fragments without reason or warning checks out.
As for Poland, the planned network would connect everything neatly and also feature a second ring road around Warsaw. But for some reason they are building it in a way that the version on this quiz is the current state, with the roads appearing and disappearing without any warning
Quick explanation: The builded road sections are byppasses for major cities. They were more important as the Government tried to reduce traffic jams and heavy carriage in these cities.
If you would use the same definition for "major roads" for all countries, Vatican would probably be an empty map...
It took me some time to find it, it was easy to see that it had to be a very small country but I didn't guess vatican at first since I thought there couldn't be so many roads.
In the end I got it by just trying every microstate I remembered.
The Interstate System and the Autobahn are probably two of the most famous road networks in the world. Ever heard of the Pan-Philippines Highway? Maybe include Philippines in your sequel?
