Didn't know Friedrich was called Frederick in English. Kind of odd since Frederick and Friedrich are both names of old high German origin.

Yeah, I kept typing every variation in spelling I could think of for Catherine until I re-read it to say Prussia.

Man, I really loused that one up. I read Persia instead of Prussia. I was shocked when it didn't accept Cyrus...until I noticed the year.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who read "Russia" for "Prussia"

I was racking my brain trying to think of other "the Greats" for Russia other than Peter and Catherine until I re-read it for about the fifth time.

20/24 - "knew" the others but couldn't remember them.

You should read Black Tulip by Dumas. It's a tale of intrigue, love, and horticultural jealousy.

I will definitely buy "The Black Tulip", as it sounds intriguing. Have heard of wars and skirmishes being fought for some ridiculous reasons, but never would have thought of Tulips!

So why specifically was the abolishment of slavery in Brazil of particular note? Was it the last major country to formally abolish slavery or something? It seemed like an odd choice of question without any further context.

Sure, the quiz accepts Ann ... in place of the more usual Anne Boleyn, but could also accept alternatives for her surname. Sometimes "Bullen" then (I now read) also "Boulan" and "(Anna) de Boulan" even "(Anna) Bolina" when Latinised.
