Fun quiz! I suck at entertainment trivia but I got 7 on my first try, loved the text replacements for the posters (especially the Modern Prometheus). Fantastic as usual.

Here comes my nerdy "erm ackshually" moment!

2001 was not directly based on the Sentinel, more Clarke and Kubrick recycled a few ideas from the story but expanded upon it so considerably that the author himself got irritated when 2001 was described as being based on the story.

Phew, sorry. It was right there. I can't help it.

Sure, but lots of films based on books/stories are expanded and changed considerably. The Sentinel is about an object that has been placed on the moon billions of years earlier by an alien civilisation, the discovery of which heralds the beginning of humanity's interaction with the advanced species. 2001 isn't exactly stuffed with plot, and that is a key part of it. It's good enough for the purposes of the quiz. And I'm not overly worried about irritating Sir Clarke. Unless he's still with us in the form of an interstellar space baby... ;)

If you get the chance, read Nothing Lasts Forever - it is totally bonkers, and hard to believe they were able to adapt it into the classic movie that it is.

I'm surprised that was least picked one. I had mental block on Vertigo, I thought Psycho or North By Northwest, just couldn't figure it out.

I had no idea Die Hard was based on a book.

It's also a sequel, kind of. The previous book in the series, The Detective, was adapted into the 1968 film of the same name starring Frank Sinatra. The studio was contractually obliged to offer Sinatra the lead role in Die Hard first. Which they did, but he turned it down, being 70 at the time.

Interesting. Having Sinatra star in the movie would've been hilarious.
