Never would have thought of it if weren't for playing Gardens of Time and them calling it that at least once. See? Facebook games are educational! ;)

Glanced at your comment and thought it said Game of Thrones instead of Gardens of Time, and was really confused, cause even though I don't watch GoT I was pretty sure there weren't any crosswalks in it.

How would people automatically know that it's referring to the same kind of crosswalk? If you've never heard it called that, I don't think it's weird to not think of it.

There are other types in UK like pelican crossings, toucan crossings, etc. I know they aren't mammals but some people might not know its; the black & white one that is being asked for (like akwr says)

I know some peeps call it a zebra crossing but in New Zealand we are lazy with words and just call it a 'Crossing'. XD Dont see the fuss in what its called so long as its not too long.

Most crosswalks in America don't have the stripes, it's just two lines to walk between at the intersection.

The ones not at an intersection are more likely to have the stripes so drivers are more likely to notice them.

The possum and the opossum are different beasties. Possums are native to Australia (and Papua New Guinea) and opossums are North American critters.

Aussie possums are actually cute! There's a going internet theory that they got our (o)possums and we got theirs.

Possums are not considered cute in NZ. They like all land mammals (apart from a couple of species of bat) are an introduced species and are responsible for the destruction of much of our native flaura and fauna. Along with being carriers of bovine tuberculous. They eat around 100,000 tonnes of native forest every night. We invest heavily in eradication programmmes and hope to have killed all 30 Million of them in the next 25 years

Yeah, Possums are massive pests in NZ but I do know a tame possum who is the sweetest thing. Although you gotta watch out for her massive claws.I wouldn't call them cute but some are so ugly that they are cute. XD

It is technically called an opossum, but they are very frequently just called "possums." It's sort of like how people often just say "rhino," or "hippo," or "gator," rather than "rhinoceros," "hippopotamus," or "alligator." And the saying is "playing possum," so you wouldn't say "playing opossum" any more than you would call the game "Hungry Hungry Hippopotomuses."

+3
Level 72

not really a pastime so much as just the way in which they are killed. It's been seen as cruel by a lot of people. So perhaps they need to find a more humane way to kill them. But the seal populations have actually grown in recent years, and they are using every part of the seal, not just killing them for fun.

In Britain, at least, fly tipping is a phrase used to describe the illegal dumping of a large(ish) amount of rubbish, usually at a road side or on parkland. The worst offenders tend to be tradesmen who would otherwise have to pay to dispose of their building site waste and householders who can't be bothered to drive to the nearest council facility to get rid of their old furniture and white goods (refrigerators, washing machines etc.) It most definitely doesn't fit the clue!
