You know how you can go to a gas station and put 50 cents into a machine and get a plastic capsule with a little toy inside? That was the original inspiration for Pokémon. In the first drafts, it was called "Capsule Monsters," but they later decided on "Pocket Monsters" or "Pokémon" for short. This is why Pokémon are stored in Poké balls.

They have real motels here in the Philippines... places where you drive inside and then you can go straight to a garage that opens directly to your room. It's a discreet place to take your mistress or escort or girlfriend. They're all over the place.

hmm, interesting. I had always just considered a motel to be a cheap hotel. never really knew why the "m" was there

Most motels in the USA are designed so that you can park very near the door to your room, and are often found along busy highways. In contrast, American hotels typically have a main entrance and a lobby you must pass through to get to a corridor or elevator that takes you where you want to go, and are most often found in city centers or near various points of interest. The Filipino motels just take it to an additional level.

Paraguay has those too. There the word "motel" always has a sexual connotation.

Yeah, to me, a motel has rooms that lead directly outside, whereas a hotel has rooms in a hallway and you have to go through the lobby.

The ones that have the look of "discreet meeting places" here in the US are sometimes called a "no-tell motel".
