Bismarck-Mandan, twin towns. One is North Dakota's capital.

I was also surprised by the high average score. I got 300/500, and that's after taking several other U.S. cities quizzes beforehand and memorising the answers. I'm guessing the average is so high because the majority of people who take this quiz are hardcore jetpunkers lol

Brattleboro (~12k) and Bennington (~15k), VT are both larger than Bellows Falls, just FYI :-)
+2
Level 49
Apr 10, 2024
both are towns, which are township-level subdivisions (some states have cities that are referred to as towns, some states have townships referred to as towns) there are CDPs bennington and brattleboro which are still larger than bellows falls, but CDPs are excluded from this quiz :/

Level 56
Apr 11, 2024
and bellows falls is not a city, its part of rockingham town. Vergennes sohuld be on here it is vermont's 10th and smallest city
+1
Level 49
Apr 12, 2024
rockingham town is a county subdivision (township-level subdivision). in Vermont, incorporated places with city status (of which there are 10 in vermont) are also independent from any town on the township level. this quiz uses "City" in a common way (any type of settlement - [with the restriction that it must be incorporated] - ), not referring to incorporated places with city status. this quiz is about incorporated places on the place-level, not township-level

I got 377/500 but I missed Houston...

I got all of them on: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hwaii, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey(homeland), New York, North Carolina, Ohio, OK, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas(without Houston), Utah, Virginia, and Washington.

I only got 2 on South Carolina and vermont.

Sandy, UT certainly got a boost from people staring to type 'San Diego' as Sandy is allowing "Sandie" as a type in.

Ohhhhhh that explains it!

I was looking up the ones I missed, and the one - by far - with the highest get rate was Sandy, UT. I was all: "Why????"

But yeah, that would explain it, especially now that Quizmaster has removed that type-in. 😊

No. 10 in Vermont should be Vergennes and not Bellows Falls, if you are only including those with city status. Your source has this wrong

I got better than 50% for AL, AZ, CA, FL, IL, IA, MN, NY, NC, OH, TX, VA, and WA. That's 4 states I've lived in, 2 states I've visited (or at least driven through) countless times, 3 states that just have tons of large and well-known cities, and 4 states that just happen to have cities that share a name with another city that I knew in a different state.

302. Went 10/10 in only California, Texas, New Jersey (my home state) and Pennsylvania.

Knowing Division I college football towns helped a ton.

A couple of shots-in-the-dark that came up empty: Leavenworth (for Kansas) and Memorial Stadium (for Nebraska).

I thought I knew US geography and cities, but this one showed me I was wrong! Quite surprised to see a number of 100K cities (Arvada CO, Fishers IN, Lee's Summit MO, West Jordan UT to name a few) I've never heard of before.

According to the Vermont Secretary of State, they have ten cities: Barre City, Burlington, Essex Junction, Montpelier, Newport City, Rutland City, St. Albans City, South Burlington, Vergennes, and Winooski. Bellows Falls is an incorporated village, which is not the same as a city per Vermont law.

In some states like FL, MI and VT, incorporated places may be called terms other than "City", like Town or Village (not to be confused with Vermont Towns, which are township-level subdivisions), so "City" is just a status like in Malta. In this quiz, City referrs to any kind of Incorporated Place, regardless of City or Town status (once again, Town as in incorporated place, not a township-level subdivision)

That was a fun quiz, thanks! I give myself a B after scoring 253. I ran through the answers quickly afterwards; since the question is posed, I will answer by saying that I've been to 92 of these cities--not counting ones where I've just been to the airport or just driven through. I missed a ton of cities that I've visited--for example, driven through, stopped for some gas or a burger, and gotten the heck out of there in search of someplace prettier....

Towson, MD is like #4 or #5 in the state. Yeah, it's a suburb of Baltimore but it is a separate city, with its own juristiction, bounderies, rules, etc. If Naperville and Elgin can apply versus Chicago, so can Towson versus Baltimore.
