im not confident, but i think fiord is the term for the ones in new zealand and fjord is for the ones in norway
+7
Level 82
Feb 26, 2024
Both are valid spellings, fiord used to be more common in English to avoid mispronunciation, but nowadays used pretty much only in NZ English. So considering the question is about NZ, it's really spelt fine, but wouldn't be wrong as fjord either.

> i think fiord is the term for the ones in new zealand and fjord is for

Broadly correct, yes:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fjord#Etymology (see final paragraph under "Etymology")

All the glacial valleys in the south island of New Zealand are named as "sounds" rather than "fjords", a mistake repeated by various British explorers in the 1800s. Sounds are river valleys which have been flooded by rising sea levels. Fjords are valleys formed by glaciers which have been flooded by rising sea levels.

Great quiz but more time please, would be nice to see how many questions I can actually get correct with my knowledge, I mean we have 100 questions.

Will nominate if you increase the time to at least 15 minutes for sure!

20 minutes also wouldn't hurt, that would still mean 5 questions per minute, or 12 seconds per question. Considering the time needed to change questions, to think and to type, I would say 20 minutes would be fair.

Great quiz! Might be worth making it clear that you mean largest dam on the nile by reservoir capacity. The new GERD in Ethiopia has a much larger hydroelectric capacity than Aswan even though it only has a reservoir capacity of less than half.

Separately, I don't know if there is census data to support it, but the UN claims that India's population has surpassed China's.
