Think about it this way. In the 9-year span from 1961 through 1969, there were 35 performances of 60+ points - 1 by Jerry West, 2 by Elgin Baylor, and 33 by Chamberlain. In the entire remaining history of the league, there have only been 29 more such performances by any other players. Talk about a truly dominant career!

But holy cow, 100 points in one game? I wonder if his team was giving him the ball every time just to make that happen.

That's a complete myth. He did that once in a scrimmage at Kansas.

It's really hard to compare because basketball players can stay on the floor an entire game and get the ball every time their team has the ball, which permits them to score 60 or 70 in a game. A hockey player is on the ice less than half the game, and forwards usually only play about 1/3 of the game. A baseball player only gets four at-bats. I think Michael Phelps and Wayne Gretzky were indeed more dominant than Chamberlain, but it's tough to make a true comparison across those sports.

Don Bradman in cricket.

Only SIX test batsmen with a career batting average of over 60, Don Bradman's average was 99.94.

Next best is 64 (and Steve Smith is still an active player so this will probably come down).

Sachin Tendulkar is the GOAT. Cricket was way easier in Bradman's time than it was in Sachin's.

What a silly take.

if cricket was easier in Don's era. There would be tons of batter wil averages over 80. Tendulkar will always be second. Even second place is debatable.

elan 70 points is very rare these days so how is it not the impressive
+6
Level 65
Feb 1, 2018
Let me rephrase what I said: Devin Booker's 70 points was the LEAST IMPRESSIVE 70-point game in NBA history, for three reasons:

1. Avery Bradley, the Celtics' #1 defender (at the time), did not play. He would have been guarding Devin Booker.

2. The Celtics were winning by around 30 points throughout the entire game, so they did not concern themselves with how many points Devin Booker was scoring.

3. At the end of the game, the Suns repeatedly intentionally fouled the Celtics, just so they could get the ball back and add to Booker's point total.

Remember that I am a Celtics fan, and my "saltiness" is meant to be perceived with a layer of humor.

Don't watch basketball but cannot help to be impressed with Chamberlain - 70 years of basketball (from the first 60+ game in 1949) and there have been 72 occasions were someone has scored at least 60. 32 of those occasions are from him! 11 occasions of a 70+ game and he has 6 of those (including a '100'). Wow. No-one has come close to replicating his dominance.
