Seconding adding "German Confederation," "German League," "German Bund" etc. The fact that there is a more specific answer doesn't preclude accepting a less specific answer that is still significantly descriptive. For example, a question answered by "John Quincy Adams" would still accept "John Adams" even though generally we understand the latter to refer to a different president.

I feel that example is a little disingenuous. A better example would be trying to say the Roman Empire is a shortened way of saying the Holy Roman Empire. Two very different entities.

Given that Jetpunk picks and chooses which countries it recognizes, I move that all the piddly little principalities be stricken from the roster along with most of the nations of the Caribbean and Oceania, and Belgium.

While this is a very nicely executed concept, I'd highly suggest fixing up some of the crudely drawn borders (especially Prussia's/Germany's eastern border in 1815, 1870 and 1920) here before this gets featured.

Technically ‘West Germany’ is the same country as today’s Germany i.e. the ‘Bundesrepublik Deutschland’ (Federal Republic of Germany). What we call West Germany absorbed East Germany, they didn’t merge to form a new country.

Why don't you include Turkey if you include the Ottoman Empire?
+1
Level 64
Aug 25, 2021
Because the Ottoman Empire had more land in europe than Turkey, so turkey is considered in Asia. Plus Constantinople was technically in Europe so theres no point in blacking out Ottoman here while Ankara is well into Asia.

This site is notoriously inconsistent with Europe/Asia.

Russia is Europe and Turkey is not. That's just the way it was decided.

What about short-lived puppet states established by the Nazis during WWII? In particular, the Italian Social Republic (1943-45) co-existed with the Kingdom of Italy and therefore has to be considered a different country.

you're*

You're is a contraction of the words you and are, so if your sentence contains "you're" see if the sentence still makes sense with "you are" instead of "you're".

On the other hand, your is the second person possessive (both plural and singular), which means that it belongs to (or is associated with) you or the person that you are addressing. Examples include "What is your name?" or "Are these your books?". It can also just refer to anyone in general, such as in instruction manuals. It is also used when addressing the holder of certain titles.

I believe you're missing a few:

Carpatho-Ukraine (1938–1939)

Fiume, Free State (1920–1924)

Lichtenberg (1815–1834)

Mountainous Republic of the Northern Caucasus (1917–1920)

Schleswig (1864–1866)

Great quiz, I am seeing a couple issues though..

The 1920 map has Kaliningrad (Russia) instead of east Prussia (Germany).

In 1920, Rhodes was under Italian control, Hatay was under French mandate, and Ukraine was potentially independent.

In 1815, some of the Ionian islands were owned by the UK and France.
