I can't think of an instance in which bitte = sorry. Maybe only if it's used in the meaning of "Sorry, what did you say?" and even then "Wie bitte?" is the more common phrase.

Yeah, traditionally farthest means the most amount of physical distance away. Furthest means the highest degree away from something. London is farthest from Australia, and the furthest thing from being a pile of potatoes. Pretty sure this is fading away from the English language, though. But I’d also say most English rules are deteriorating as western civilization gives their children iPads instead of teaching them the alphabet.
