Isn't the US dollar also one of the official currencies of Panama, in addition to the balboa? Am I wrong?
+9
Level 72
Jan 28, 2021
There are no balboa banknotes, only coins. They use US banknotes, since 1 balboa = 1 USD. So it was kind of an iffy choice for this question.

For some reason, I thought the question was asking which one used US dollars, which I knew Jamaica had their own currency (even if they are perfectly happy letting you pay in US dollars), so yeah, I got that one wrong. Whoops.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think a temperature can be "lower" or "higher" and the air / water / whatever is "warmer" or "colder". The same way a car is moving fast, but its speed is high.
+2
Level 70
Mar 28, 2021
That's true, however colloquial English seems to favour 'hotter/colder' to describe temperature. This is the sort of thing people will furiously debate online!

The distance between NZ and Australia is actually 4,163km.
+6
Level 79
Jan 31, 2021
No sorry, it just isn't. Sydney to Auckland is about 3800 km but Lord Howe Island (part of New South Wales) to Cape Reinga is about 1300 km. The distance could be less than 1300 km if Three Kings Islands are used instead of Cape Reinga, but they're uninhabited and sometimes that doesn't count for quizzes around here.

The infinite coastline paradox would suggest that both Colombia and Norway have equal coastlines.
+5
Level 68
Feb 3, 2021
Well aware of that, but unfortunately not all infinities have the same order. (I believe they do in this case). Common sense says the question implies "longest coastline to a finite precision".

And it’s not Colombia in the quiz anyway.

I don't know if this is because of a recent update or not, but question 8 appears to be broken. I selected the picture of Norway, the additional fact at the bottom indicates Norway is the correct answer, but I get the question wrong for some reason.

That was fun.

I really enjoyed this format.

It helps reinforce my knowledge of flags, outlines, and names. It also provides a nice trivia bit. And I thought that the trivia questions were well-chosen; they made me consider the geographical positions of the countries, as well as how they might interact with their neighbors.

Let’s go nitpicky for this new year!

Do questions 9, 12, 13 really fit this quiz? It is not really a “competition” between both countries. One country answers the question and the other one doesn’t, but no country “beats” the other one. It would be weird to say “country 1 has more -ish than country 2”.

I don’t know if I’m clear.

Nice quiz anyway.

And happy new year!
