Maybe use the yellow box here? Otherwise, you can fluke these answers.

Agreed. You can get a decent score just by typing in New Zealand and Australia. A tad easy.

I know nothing about rugby so I just started typing every country I could think of from Europe, and then the British Empire. (Had time left and got Argentina on a lucky guess. Didn't make it to Africa so South Africa was the only one I missed.)

Yeah agreed with the yellow box, I knew 3 actual answers and still managed 100% very quickly. Cool quiz though we don't see enough of these

Unfortunately it has become somewhat of a meme in the international rugby community. Perennial quarter finalists.

One of the easiest. And that is saying something, considering that I normally have not a clue about rugby. I guess it helps to live in the UK, where you get inundated with news about the world cup, you just can't avoid it.

I missed one, Argentina, but I managed only 3 out of 5 points. 8 total answers, but somehow if you miss only one, you lose almost half the points, seems odd.

Great quiz, just not sure about how it is scored.

Level 63

Rugby and American football might have similar goals (get the ball to the end, tackle people) but the gameplay is extremely different because in rugby you aren't allowed to throw the ball forwards. Also in rugby the game doesn't stop when someone gets tackled, so there's a lot more incentive to avoid tackles by pass the ball (as opposed to NFL where being tackled after running a few yards forwards is generally a good thing).

Also, rugby players have to be better all-rounders. In American football, there a two different guys who come on only to kick the ball, but depending on the type of kick, it's not the same guy. In rugby, while there is some specialisation, pretty much every player needs to know how to defend and attack, how to tackle, how to carry the ball, etc.

I watched England v. South Africa. As a non-fan, it was confusing how South Africa won on a technical penalty from the scrum (or was it a ruck?) In my opinion, it was a very non-satisfying result that didn't make me eager to watch more rugby.

I woke up on a Sunday morning to be greeted by the final on TV in the 70th minute. I didn't watch most of the game, but I was utterly hooked. The All Blacks looked gutted, but they were a man down for nearly an hour, so they did well to get close really.

Let's not forget three wins by one point in the final phases, and the even more outrageous refereeing against France. O'Keeffe really need to be fired after those two disasters.
+1
Level 56
Oct 29, 2023
I agree. South Africa do quite a lot of winning by scrum penalties, which to my (relatively untutored) mind is perilously close to being bonus points for being heavier, rather than for having more skill in the game.

As a French person, I have to say the French have proven time and time again to be the worst losers ever. You can't imagine the barrage of whining you're subjected to when you live in this country. The only time I saw them graciously accept defeat was when the All Blacks score 60+ points on them in 2015, because, well, that's hard to argue with...
