I missed the word "north" and kept typing Malawi thinking I was spelling it wrong.

Same here. I tried Malawi and then Tanzania before I saw that it's about North Africa.

I didn't even think of the lake, as I thought it had shrunk to a shadow of its former size. Though I understand it is recovering - slightly.

The em-dash in the record temperature question threw me. I couldn't think of any country that never gets above thirty below zero.
