Probably a quibble, but it should be AD 1—not 1 AD.

Okay, it's totally a quibble.

I've never seen it written that way. Should I also be writing AD 2021, or is this unique to 1 AD?

Its true. AD means Anno Domini, Latin for in the year of the Lord. Written out like that, it makes sense to place the AD before the year, because it translates to, for example, in the year of the Lord 2021. If you write it after, it becomes 2021 in the year of the Lord, and that doesn't make sense in English.

Technically, the AD should be before the year. In reality, no one cares anymore.

"Traditionally 'A.D.' was placed before the year number and 'B.C.' after, but many people now prefer to put both abbreviations after the numbers."

I'm a history teacher and was absolutely gutted not to get 100%. Until I realised I misread the AD 1 question as born AFTER. Haha, got them all wrong....

It happens, I am a huge history buff and the only one I got wrong was Bejing because my expertise isn't with China and Phoenicians because I completely forgot about Parthia being Phoenician lol

The "cities that existed" question maybe needs a bit of a clarification. Some of the cities definitely had a history of inhabitation prior to 1AD, but were not established "cities." Perhaps, "cities that were founded" before 1AD? Otherwise, excellent quiz!

Which city in particular? I pretty sure all the incorrect answers were not settled in any significant way in 1 AD.

There are traces of settlement from the Bronze Age and the Iron Age on Castle Rock and Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh. (Not saying that should count - merely trying to answer your question).

Nice one! I almost convinced myself that Chicago was an ancient city, so proud of myself for seeing sense! I usually go for those ridiculous ones.

My Civ-based knowledge messed me up for once. Steel is always in the Medieval tech tree, so I got that one wrong

I was very confused by the "Roman Emperors" section -- thought it was still about A.D.1 LOL.

Me too, on the question before it. I tried responding with the civilisations that were still extant in 1 AD...

Cool quiz. 58/60 made one dumb mistake and it cost me 2 points because I knew it had to be 6 correct on each part.

I didn’t know it had to be 6 correct on each part. Thanks that is a useful piece of info. Does it apply to all the tile quizzes that half are always correct? or perhaps half plus one when there are an odd number of tiles? Well, the latter works for places by countries but apparently neither rule holds for the cities to countries tile select quiz so don’t depend on it.

You can choose however many correct tiles you want, so it doesn't hold (although maybe there is an unwritten rule that it's standard that I'm unaware of)

I think clarification needs to be given on the definition of the Middle East because the Numidians lived in modern day North Africa which is sometimes included in the definition of the Middle East.

The Numidians were inhabitants of modern Algeria and Morocco, countries that I have never seen be considered as part of the Middle East.

You may be confusing the Middle East with the Arab World

There’s no well defined definition of the Middle East though. The Core Middle East is generally considered to be Egypt, the Arabian Peninsula, Jordan, Israel/Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and often Iran and Turkey. From there though it gets kinda fuzzy. Some people consider North Africa and Afghanistan to be Middle Eastern because their history is closely tied to Islam and the major empires of the region, so I believe that Badeghut raises a valid question although I assumed it to mean the Core Middle East.
