Both Eddie Murray and Dave Stewart work with only the last name instead of having to type the full name like the instructions say.

Was a little perplexed at what to do. Then when I thought I understood, I guessed Frank Howard. Then I was really confused. Eventually figured it out, though.

Is it just me or is Jones not a first name?

It's a stretch for sure

Yeah, easy one to get due to "Chipper", but I went "huh?" on the Jones part.

Never heard it as a first name.

I have a grandson named Jones. It's not real common as a first name, but it gets used.

Yep, I came here to say the same thing. Jones is not a "common" first name, by any stretch.

Neither is "Babe", but just go with the spirit of the quiz

Did anybody else originally put Mike Thomas (from Backyard Baseball) instead of Frank Thomas?

I put Dave Thomas from Wendy's.

Or from the Mackenzie Brothers depending on your preference for tasteless burgers or some nice back bacon, hey hoser?

One of my favorite ballplayers growing up was Frank Howard of the Washington Senators. It didn't work here.

I agree, but Frank Thomas and Ryan Howard would make Frank Howard tough to add to the quiz.

Since when is Jones a first name?

In terms of best pitching lineup with 4 first names, you have to give it to the 80s Astros with Nolan Ryan and Mike Scott.

Quizmaster, if you are not going to listen to all the comments about how Jones is not a first name, then could you at least explain to us what makes you believe it is one??

I know three people named Jones in the small area I live in. Just because you may not have heard it, doesn't mean it isn't one.

This quiz is taken about 1 time per day. I'll get around to fixing it eventually.

It's what Hugh Grant's character called his girlfriend, Bridget Jones.

people were askingif it was or wasnt a first name. or saying that they havent heard about it. Noone came with any proof to say that it ACTUALLY isnt. Moreover, someone came with proof that common or not, atleast it excist.

The quizmaster does not need to explain all the answers if something is a correct answer it is. It is not up to him to give proof for every answer. Only if someone comes with proof to the contrary you could say hey he should come up with evidence. But he isnt even obligated to do that. There are no laws against errors in a quiz, but yea in that case it isnt too weird to expect counter evidence.

So nice to take a baseball quiz that includes Ruth and Aaron and so many other icons of the game without having to type the names of those losers who juiced their brains out to artificially insert themselves into the record book. Thankfully, the only way they'll get into the Hall of Fame is by buying a ticket.

Well, dang. I didn't get the premise until it was too late. To match one name on the list with another, rather than just come up with the whole name based on a name in the list.

There really should be clearer instructions to this quiz. Eventually caught on but figuring out what to do should not be part of the quiz.

To bring a little data to the Jones debate, according to the Social Security Administration, Jones was one of the 1000 most popular boy names in the U.S. from 1900 until the mid-1920's, after which it saw a decline in popularity from which it has (so far) not recovered.

George Scott was a 3x all star and 8x gold glover that got hall of fame votes. He played from 1966 to 1979. I would recommend taking Mike Scott out of this quiz.
