Bruges opened its stock exchange in 1309, nearly 200 years before Amsterdam. From Wikipedia's entry for Bruges: This [port] development opened not only the trade in spices from the Levant, but also advanced commercial and financial techniques and a flood of capital that soon took over the banking of Bruges. The Bourse opened in 1309 (most likely the first stock exchange in the world) and developed into the most sophisticated money market of the Low Countries in the 14th century.
But the question doesn't say "the first stock exchange in the world", it says "the world's oldest stock exchange". That implies that the stock exchange in question still exists, so Amsterdam is the correct answer.
Looks like there are actually a fair number of embassies in Pyongyang. Surprising. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_diplomatic_missions_in_North_Korea
Protests against Maduro. Funny you didn't mention the protests for Maduro that were two to three times larger. Keep watching neoliberal American media! Nice quiz anyway.
Could we accept "Panama" ? Here we use the same name for the country and the city, so I just never think of typing the whole "Panama City" and I went like "Okay, maybe Tegucigalpa? No, then maybe Guatemala? Neither… Let's try Port-au-Prince?" and so on. :'(
I missed Panama. I lived in the Canal Zone, one block from the city. Took pictures of Torrijos' victory parade when he brought the signed treaty back from U.S. in 1978......Surely I get the prize for dumbest miss ever......Or maybe I'm just tired, stressful times we're living in!
Funny way to define Caracas. I have witnessed many political marches in favour of Maduro as well as against. Clearly Americans have never forgiven the Venezuelans for daring to nationalise their own natural resources and elect a socialist government.
This ultimately is the motivation for the continuous demonisation of Venezuela, and even JetPunk quiz setters contribute in their own small way.
Imagine demonstrating in favor of a dictator. But I suppose it probably does happen.
In any case, I wish that my quizzes could help free Venezuelans from the regime which has deprived them of their freedom and led to the highest rate of absolute poverty in the Western Hemisphere.
But sadly, there's nothing a quiz can do on that front.
I'm very pleased with myself to get 100% on this quiz.
It took me a minute to get Panama City. I kept asking myself what happened in 1979? Then I asked myself who was President then. Of course, "Give them Carter, keep the Canal" or however that slogan went.
