Woodrow Wilson is a nice alliteration, but I have no idea why he is put William same thing with Calvin Coolidge he has a name with James is it? Or is somebody else. Maybe somebody should do president nicknames I would nail that and somebody should do what their parents are named.

The first ladies would be a harder quiz. It's not too hard to guess Betty Ford would be Elizabeth, but how many know "Pat" Nixon is really Thelma, or that "Lady Bird" Johnson is really Claudia - plus the first ladies generally aren't as famous.

Georges H. W. and W. Bush were Republicans. Gerald Ford was a Republican. Dwight Eisenhower was a Republican. Donald Trump is the Tea Party's dream. He is not a Republican.
+7
Level 82
Feb 23, 2018
I don't think he's even what anyone in the tea party movement wanted. (they might think he is, but he's not. All of his supporters have been duped) Trump is just a self-serving narcissistic moron who was born rich and has conned and swindled his way into the presidency. What was the tea party about? Mostly smaller government, right? But Trump has increased the deficit and his tax cuts for the wealthy is going to explode the debt like it never has been before. He doesn't mean anything he says he only cares somewhat about appearances. He's not serving the party. He's not serving the alt Right. He's not a true conservative. He's not a true Republican. He's not a true American. He's just a disgrace.

Could you add Leslie as answerable for Gerald Ford? That was his given name.
+1
Level 47
Jan 11, 2018
I would say no, personally. His name was legally changed to Gerald Rudolff Ford Jr. It's not like a nickname or going by a middle name.
+1
Level 75
Jul 12, 2018
It is interesting, though, that his name, Leslie Lynch King Jr., wasn't changed until he became an adult and he took his stepfather's name (changing the spelling of the middle name) even though he was never adopted by him. But legally his name was Gerald when he was president, and that's what the quiz is about.
+1
Level 66
Jul 30, 2019
How would a nickname be MORE acceptable than the name that was given to someone at his birth...

Gerald should definitely be the displayed name, as that was his name during his function. But I dont see it as a problem to accept the name he was given and didnt change untill later in life.

+3
Level 76
Aug 11, 2023
Because it's not a nickname. He legally changed his name to "Gerald Rudolph Ford, Jr." when he was 22, almost 40 years before he became President. It was his legal name for 71 years, and was his commonly-used name for around 88 years. Why would a name that was only legally his for 22 years and only actually used for maybe 5 years be more "acceptable" than the name that was legally his for 71 years and actually used by him for around 88?

I didn't know this was going to be on the front page again today. I intend to change the type-ins to be mostly consistent with all presidents that share a common name but have different nicknames to avoid the phenomenon of people getting "Bill" but missing "William," et cetera.

But I think I will hold off on that until next year. When, hopefully I'll get to add Michael and then shortly after perhaps an Elizabeth, Bernard, or Joseph.

I used to author quizzes a lot when I was working at a university in Saudi Arabia and forced to maintain office hours where I often had nothing else to do. I left that job in September 2014. So since then... a combination of having less restrictions on my free time lately, and just getting tired of it I guess. I have a lot of quiz ideas I just never got around to making.

I am not a Democrat. My strong opposition to Donald Trump's presidency was based on my status as a human being. And any policy opinions I have are derived from a commitment to rational skepticism not any particular ideological or political bent. If I had one of those it would probably be best described as classical liberalism with a dash of libertarianism and a sprinkling of neo-liberalism. Some would call me a centrist. I prefer the label realist or rationalist as not all issues are binary and, for those that are binary, typically one side is more correct than the other (not always the same side), and compromise is not the ideal answer. I prefer taking the position that is correct over taking the position that is in the center. I've never belonged to a political party.
