I'm not sure, but I think you just pronounce all the j's like y's and everything else is what it looks like.

A-yah-fyat-lah-y-oeh-kutl --- or some such. I *really* suck at writing pronunciation. I am better at IPA. But you might get "closeish" trying to say that. Other: youtube will have examples too.

Not bad...the double-l is pronounced like 'dl' or 'tl', depending on I never really knew what. And 'j' is said like 'y'. Eye-yah-fjet-lah-yoh-kut'l. When it erupted, there were lots of videos of various TV reporters in various countries, trying to pronounce it.

A lot of them tried winging it by saying "the volcano in Iceland"

I learnt it off Newsround or Blue Peter or something like that. It gets annoying knowing how to say it, especially when people demand of you to say it, like my peers at Geography GCSE. My teacher pronounced it Eya-fayokul, which really got on my nerves.

I know this is nitpicking, but the Jutland peninsula is shared by Denmark and Germany - both should be accepted as the correct answer, then.

Aren't there many countries with islands in the Andaman Sea (Thailand, for example)? Are India's the only ones referred to as Andaman Islands?

Coco islands belong to Myanmar which are close to Andaman islands and can be considered as their part. Don't have any idea about Thailand has islands there.

For those wondering about the pronunciation, the IPA for Eyjafjallajökull is [ˈeɪjaˌfjatlaˌjœːkʏtl̥]. And yes, it's spelled with an ö.

SPOILER: Eyjafjallajökull = Iceland

Also, don't forget to put the ö (o with an umlaut) in "Eyjafjallajökull"

Catch a throatful from the fire vocal

With ash and molten glass like Eyjafjallajökull

The volcano out of Iceland
