To be fair, I didn't even realise it was him at first because I've never seen his name written as Đoković. Still got it but can see that as a reason many people missed it.

I honestly had no idea who Haile Gebrselassie was, but got it from the similarity to Haile Selassie.

He had the world record for the marathon at one time. But most people will probably get it the way you did.

Yes, I didn't know a lot of these but that one, Suzuki, and Kim were easy guesses since the names are associated with their countries. I was surprised they didn't have higher percentages.

Artistic Gymnastics isn't a popular sport indeed

Women's artistic gymnastics are very popular; they're one of the most popular events at the Olympics, The finals are always broadcast during primetime from the flagship channels, and tickets are hard to get.

However, the athletes' careers tend to be short so 1-2 Olympics (which tend to be the only broadcast competitions, especially in the US now that the Wide World of Sports is long gone) which are usually their only chances at becoming well-known by name, especially outside of their countries.

Maybe 'sportspeople' would be a better phrase than athlete. The word athlete still has connotations for physical exertion in a way that a batsman or a car driver don't really conform.

F1 drivers have to be very fit. The forces endured during a race are exhausting.
