Woolly Mammoths were most common throughout Europe and Siberia.

Not sure about other mammoth species though.

Also, I had to group all the antelopes together. There are about 100 different species of them, and they are very loosely related to each other.

I went into this quiz getting ready to name all the dik-diks, impalas, elands, and springboks I could think of... was glad that wasn't necessary. Also took me far too long to understand why Hippo wasn't being accepted.

Are horses native to Africa?

Mar 13, 2017
@Malbaby Actually no. The genus Equus evolved in North America, but the species Equus ferus, the one that humans domesticated, evolved in the steppes of Eurasia. There was a subspecies that “returned” to North America. All that was only possible due to the land bridge connecting what is today Alaska and Siberia.

Interesting side fact: The North American population of wild horses was hunted to extinction in prehistoric times, which is why the natives had never seen those animals before the Europeans arrived.

Can't exactly agree with that reasoning sulfuratus, if the Equus evolved in North America then horses are originally native to North America not Africa. (sorry I deleted my first comment by mistake)

I second this. Hippos come out of the water to graze on land at night. They have four legs and do all of the key parts of life on land. They eat on land, mate on land, and give birth on land. I think you should re-think that classification.

Agreed, according to the African Wildlife Foundation (who should know better than most) hippos are land mammals that are also adapted to live in water.

Cool! got 5 points :) thought I had done average. I got 19 average is currently 11. I missed sheep, stag, ass. And aardvark and tortoise. I didnt recognize the family name of those last two.

I almost wanted to write another comment for the quizmaster asking what about giant eland, but I guess it is included in antelope as a generic term.

Only other I could think of was springbok, that one weigh up to about 45 kilo so not even halfway there ow wait this isnt in kilo's. Well also listen under antelope I guess (if it made it). I wonder which ones just missed the cut.
