I believe that's an effect of the Mercator projection. In a more global projection you see they're not quite as far over.

It is nothing to do with the Mercator Projection. It is because you haven't included China in your map. And the map you have in your quiz isn't even a Mercator Projection anyway. See here for more details.

Nothing to do with not having China in the quiz.

Great quiz, given 5 stars (was a sad sight to still see them white ;) ) could ve done with a tad more time. 30 seconds, so ypu can have typos and think about a country or two

Sweden and Denmark are not actually physically connected by land, only by a bridge. So technically they're not bordering countries.

Because Spain has exclaves touching the Moroccan mainland.

But Spain and Morocco DO border...

Level 79
Jan 31, 2021
They don't have to be bordering, just connected and the bridge does that just fine.

The bridge between those two would qualify them for me, but I'm more concerned about how there is a 9 mile gap between Spain and Morroco with no bridge
+2
Level 38
Mar 11, 2021
spain has some towns on the coast of morrocco, so they technically border

I was actually thinking the same, the "land mass" is a bit misleading expression. However, if we are thinking borders, Swedish/Danish borders do touch at sea, it is not possible to pass the strait without using the area of either country. The situation is similar in Gibraltar, there are no international waters thru the strait.

(The international law grants the right to sail thru those straits to all countries, but that is a different thing.)

Love this series!

Though shouldn't Andorra be on the list too?

France and Spain are connected without Andorra, and so the quiz doesn't need Andorra.

But so do Germany and France, so why include Luxembourg? (I'm in favor of both Luxembourg and Andorra ftr.)

Just to challenge for the nitpicker's award, since Andorra is excluded, there should be a grey/white gap on the map where it is located - and I can't see it.

It is there, it's just the blue borders of the countries are too large. If you remove the borders, it appears:

i second that, Andorra needs to be added. Then why putting Luxembourg and no Andorra ? that doesn't make sense

Because then the two columns for the answers would be uneven.

There's nothing that says because a country is between two others, they have to be connected. Andorra simply chose not to participate in Spain and France's games when they joined forces. Since it was unnecessary for Andorra to join, they have just become the Lesotho of this super country!

why is morocco and Spain connected? like they're not connected by a bridge, but they do border each other.

I agree this was sneaky on my part to connect them. Just pretend they built a land bridge to block off the Mediterranean Sea!

there is a small strait between Morrocco and Spain, so they dont borde like that, but there are some Spanish cities on the coastline of morrocco, so you could count them as bordeing like that

They've invested in a land bridge purely to become the connecting piece in this supermass of land. All because they couldn't go round the other way!
