I mean surely they were part of the Roman Empire and should be included in the quiz. Nowhere does it say there is a cut off in terms of country size.

The order of the countries is by most land area in the Roman Empire. While those countries were part of the Roman Empire, they are very small, and even the entire country has less land area than the part of Bulgaria that was in the Roman Empire.

It says so right in the title. There is no exact cut off point given, but you can bet vatican would never be the one of the biggest ones.

Edit:plus besides the title it says so in the description, the ones with the most area part of the roman empire. Not all country of which at least a little bit was part of the empire. The are only 15 spots, if the amount of land is not big enough it is not on it.

Like a quiz biggest landanimals, with 10 spots, you wouldnt ask where is the flea?? well yes it lives on land... but has no place in the top

One of the few times in world history that a wall has been successful....
+5
Level 68
Nov 16, 2019
Well, the wall was only moderately successful at keeping the Scots and Picts out of Roman Britannia. I guess you could say that it succeeded in keeping the Romans out of Scotland, though.

They did actually control most of the Scottish lowlands for some time, before retreating back towards northern England.

It's strange being from the UK that people from other countries didn't realise we were in the Roman Empire, but then I guess its because its a big part of our history in school and stuff

Im not from the uk and I find it strange aswell, even if you have no clear idea where the boundaries were, surely you have heard of the city of bath, known for its roman baths, founded by the romans (under the name aquae sulis), and of a little settlement called londinium.

Isn't Germany missing here? It should be 5th right behind Spain?

okay nevermind... I guess this is based on the amount of territory that was part of the Roman Empire not the amount of the territory that the contemporary country includes. Given that... I think the title is confusing. Should be... Countries With the Most Territory That Was Part of the Roman Empire...
